Last year, Jojo Siwa and Candace Cameron Bure made numerous headlines as the two engaged in quite a heated back-and-forth – which started with Jojo describing Candace as one of the ‘rudest’ celebrities she had ever met and continued with Candace vowing to preserve ‘traditional marriage’ in film.
On Thursday (July 27), roughly a year since the feud began, Jojo opened up about her spat with Candace in an appearance on The Viall Files podcast with host Nick Viall. While she stands by what she said in the past and wishes Bure would be more inclusive, Jojo is giving up hope that she might one day change.
“After reading [the article], it gave me a little sense of, ‘OK, you and her are never going to agree, you and her are never going to be friends [or] get along,” Jojo said of the public feud in her interview with Viall. “I’m never going to be able to change her, she’s not gonna be able to change me, we can both just live life.”

The feud started in July 2022 when Jojo Siwa described Candace Cameron Bure as one of the ‘rudest’ celebrities she had ever met – stemming from an incident that happened when Jojo (an 11-year-old at the time) was denied a photo with the Full House star. Jojo’s comment was made in a video on TikTok.
Things were fine between the two for several months, but things took a turn for the worse when Candace made comments of her own. After being promoted to chief creative officer of the Great American Family TV network, she vowed to keep ‘traditional marriage’ at her core when brainstorming new film ideas.
“It’s fine if you are doing it because it’s just your movie’s storyline,” Siwa said on The Viall Files podcast. “But when you’re doing it out of spite to say that, ‘Too much is about LGBTQIA and you guys suck and I want to make a movie about traditional marriage and you’re not traditional,’ that got to me a little bit.”
While she admits that ‘not everything has to be gay essentially,’ Jojo Siwa still feels slighted at the fact that Candace ‘was going to specifically make movies that had no representation of LGBTQIA.’ (For those who dont know or follow Jojo, she identifies as pansexual, which means she’s attracted to all genders).
Jojo Siwa Wishes Candace Cameron Would Be More Open
Jojo Siwa might not be able to change the way Candace Cameron Bure feels about the LGBTQIA community, that isn’t going to stop her for standing up for what she believes in and certainly isn’t going to regret calling out those who try to belittle her community – even if it’s someone she used to idolize.
“[The LBGTQIA+ community are] my people, I gotta stand up for [them],” Siwa said on The Viall Files – adding that Candace’s comments were ‘messed up’ because they implied that those in the LGBTQIA community couldn’t be ‘good, loving Christians.’ Candace has yet to respond to Siwa’s recent interview.
“But I wish she was able to be a little more open, a little more accepting. I’m OK with calling her out in the way that I did,” Siwa added on the podcast. She notably came out as part of the LGBTQIA community in January 2021 and, while she has since identified herself as pansexual, it took her some time to realize it.

“I still don’t know what I am,” Jojo Siwa said of her sexuality in April 2021 – she was dating Kylie Prew at the time, but they broke up later that year. “But like, I don’t know, bisexual, pansexual, queer, lesbian, gay, straight. I always just say gay because it just kind of covers it or queer because I think the keyword is cool.”
