On Sept. 9, Johnny and Matthew Gaudreau were laid to rest.
Their wives gave emotional eulogies at the funeral. During Johnny’s wife Meredith Gaudreau’s, she made a major announcement.
“John and I had the best six months as a family of four,” Meredith said during her speech, ABC News reports. “These will forever be the best six months of my life.”
Meredith and Johnny welcomed their second child into the world, Johnny Jr., in February. And during those blissful six months, Meredith said there was “specifically one week that I will cherish forever.”
“It will be my favorite week of my life out of those six months,” Meredith explained. “We’re actually a family of five.”
“I’m in my ninth week of pregnancy with our third baby,” Meredith announced during her eulogy. She added that the pregnancy was “a total surprise.”
Meredith was able to share the news with Johnny before his unexpected death. “John was beaming and so excited,” she said.
“His reaction was just immediately kissing me and hugging me,” she shared.
“Noa, our oldest, hasn’t even turned 2 yet. In less than three years of marriage, we’ve created a family of five,” Meredith continued. “It doesn’t even sound possible, but I look at it as the ultimate blessing.”
“How lucky am I to be the mother of John’s three babies? Our last one being a blessing and so special despite these difficult circumstances.”
Six days after their deaths, Meredith celebrated their third wedding anniversary.
“I never post this much but John deserves it. 3 years ago today I became yours forever. One of the best days of my life, including the night we got engaged and the days we brought our babies into the world,” she wrote.
“The day I met you I remember saying to myself, ‘omg, I’m going to marry him.’ And every day after that kept getting better and better. I love you forever John and I am so proud to be your wife.”
Johnny and Matthew were biking together in Oldmans Township, New Jersey on Aug. 29, when they were struck by a driver suspected of drunk driving. The brothers were slated to be groomsman in their younger sister, Katie Gaudreau’s, wedding the following day.
