Johnny Depp has officially had enough of the Hollywood lifestyle and is opting for something much more quiet and private these days. The 59-year-old actor has been living in Somerset, England – which is roughly 150 miles west of London – and enjoys everything about it, including the neighborly people.
He’s reportedly living in a £13 million estate that he bought in 2014, just months before he tied the knot with ex-wife Amber Heard. The home has 12 bedrooms, 8 bathrooms, and sits on roughly 850 acres of land that’s surrounded by walled gardens – more land than he had in Hollywood, but less house.
Just a few weeks ago, he was seen purchasing decorations, furniture, and other antique items in a vintage shop in Lincolnshire, UK – about 230 miles from his home. According to the owner, he bought ‘a lot of very quirky items; a desk chair, three guitars, paint sets, easels, a few pictures, posters’ and more.

In an interview with Somerset Life, a local magazine that’s popular in his new town, Johnny Depp opened up about his new lifestyle away from the bright lights. He expressed his gratitude for the people in the area, who he described as ‘cool’ and neighborly – adding they’ll greet you without ‘going over the top.’
“I don’t mind if people want an autograph or a brief chat but not when I am having some private time with my family,” he explained to the magazine. “I can go into shops without being surrounded by people wanting selfies. I don’t mind that up to a point, but sometimes it gets a little too crowded.”
He went on to explain that he’s actually a very shy person, despite what many people might think. “That’s one of the great things about Britain, and especially Somerset. I can just be me — and that’s nice,” he added. For someone who has made a career out of being in the spotlight, that might come as a surprise.
As for his home, he loves the character it provides and said he owns several homes in various different places around the world – not just to own them, but to get use out of them because they ‘all mean something special to me.’ His new, low-key lifestyle suits what he is looking for in this chapter of his life.
Johnny Depp Finding Peace After Tumultuous Defamation Battle
For those that follow Johnny Depp, it’s no surprise that he’s opting for the quiet life after a long and tumultuous defamation court battle with his ex-wife, Amber Heard. He ultimately won his three defamation claims and decided to donate Amber’s $1 million settlement to a number of different charities.
In search of a new life away from Hollywood, Johnny Depp ended up moving to Sussex to live with his friend, Jeff Beck – who he released an album with as he rediscovered his love for music. Unfortunately, Beck passed away on January 10, 2023 at the age of 78 – at which point, Depp moved to Somerset.
Last month, a source close to Depp explained the move. “As much as London and Paris are busy, thriving cities, Johnny still feels he can relax and be creative there. He has always loved Europe, and people love him there. He feels very at home there and finds the European lifestyle a bit more his speed,” they said.
