Jimmy Buffett Forced to Postpone Concert Amid Hospitalization: “Growing Old is Not for Sissies”

Jimmy Buffett has been entertaining fans with his musical prowess for nearly six decades and never seems to disappoint when he takes center stage. Even at 76 years old, Buffett has been touring the country on his Second Wind Tour with the Coral Reefer Band and special guest Scotty Emerick

That tour was set to continue with a show at Credit One Stadium – home of the WTA’s Charleston Open – in Charleston, South Carolina on May 20. Unfortunately, those plans came to a screeching halt when Buffett was hospitalized in lieu of a medical emergency that required immediate attention and treatment.

Jimmy Buffett announced the news on his official website and Twitter account. While he didn’t specify what the medical emergency was, he confirmed a new concert will be rescheduled in Charleston at a later date, at which point ‘all previously purchased tickets will be honored’ to those still interested in attending.

“Two days ago, I was just back from a trip to the Bahamas, thawing out from the California ‘winter tour,’ and chomping at the bit to get to Charleston. I had to stop in Boston for a check-up but wound up back in the hospital to address some issues that needed immediate attention,” he explained in his statement.

He went on to say that ‘growing old is not for sissies,’ but promised to return to the stage as soon as he’s well enough to perform. He praised his fans for making his life ‘more meaningful and fulfilled than I would have ever imagined’ and thanked them for their continued thoughts, prayers, well wishes, and loyalty.

Buffett also shared a few words from Mark Twain regarding changes in life – telling his fans it seemed relevant at the time. “Challenges … make life interesting, however overcoming them is what makes life meaningful,” Buffett wrote before revealing the ‘sudden change of plans’ that plagued him this week.

Jimmy Buffett Working on New Album

Jimmy Buffett has released 29 studio albums since emerging on the scene in the late-1960s and has performed around the world with a tour practically every year since the mid-1970s. He does his music justice with his performances and knows how to captivate an audience with his popular hit songs.

For the 76-year-old, 29 studio albums isn’t enough – he’s currently working on a 30th album and has talked about the inspiration behind the album name during several of his concerts over the past few months. A release date hasn’t been scheduled, but fans are excited to hear some of his new music.

As for his recent health issues, it marks the second time Jimmy Buffett has been hospitalized in the past eight months. He found himself in the hospital in September with doctors ordering him to refrain from performing for the rest of the year – canceling five of his shows to ‘take this time to recuperate and heal.’

Buffett is set to turn 77 years old in December, but is committed to continuing his music career and has no plans of retiring from live performances. While he’ll be sidelined in lieu of his recent health complications, we can rest easy knowing he’ll be back on-stage and entertaining his loyal fanbase in no time.
