Two and a half years after opening up about her struggles with her weight, Jazz Jennings is now a junior at Harvard and making incredible progress.
In a rare update from the otherwise low-key college student, Jazz turned to Instagram to open up to her followers.
“70 pounds down,” Jennings wrote on Instagram. “Feeling happier and healthier than I’ve been in years. I still have a ways to go, but I’m so proud to finally be taking the necessary steps toward bettering my mind, body, and spirit”
Back in 2021, a new promo for her reality series revealed what Jazz Jennings has been up to since getting into Harvard and opting to take a gap year after graduating Valedictorian of her high school class.
As it turns out, Jennings’ gap year turned into two, but she was determined to take her place at Harvard University in 2022. In the promo, it was revealed that Jazz Jennings delayed her Ivy League college experience due to her mental health.

“Two years ago, I was on my way to one of the greatest institutions in the world, but I was actually struggling severely with mental health issues,” she said in a voiceover. As Jazz continued, she revealed she developed an eating disorder and as a result gained a substantial amount of weight.
“I started binge eating, and I gained weight, and more weight, and more weight. And now, almost 100 pounds heavier, here I am today.” As a result of her weight gain, Jazz admitted there are a lot of things she’s used to doing that she can no longer do.
As Mamas Uncut previously reported, Jazz took to Instagram in an attempt to hold herself accountable. She had hoped by doing so she would be more motivated to do the work that would allow her to lose weight.
“I’m posting this photo because it’s time for me to address my weight gain and hold myself accountable. I’m ready to change my ways; I’ve been saying I’m ready to turn over a new leaf, but I’m running out of trees now. I’m ready to take the initiative and create positive changes when it comes to my health and body,” Jazz wrote, in part.
And for the most part, her family seemed very supportive of that journey. However, in the promo, Jazz Jennings accused her family of “fat-shaming.” She said, “It makes me feel really humiliated.”
During one of the sneaks peeks, Jazz was heard revealing what she eats only for breakfast to a professional. Her family was also in the room and is admittedly shocked by Jazz’s food intake.
In the end, Jazz’s mother is seen telling Jazz to stop making empty promises and prove that she is able to take care of herself while she is hundreds of miles away at school. “Prove it,” she told Jazz, “cause you’re all talk.”
