After reports surfaced that Britney Spears’ father was dealing with serious health issues, new reports from TMZ are sharing just how serious his health issues are.
The Spears family made headlines earlier this week after Britney seemingly reconciled with her mother, Lynn. Now, TMZ says sources are confirming that while spending time in the hospital last month, Jamie had his leg amputated.
In fact, the sources go as far as to say that Jamie’s health issues may lead to a reconciliation between him and his daughter as well.
As sources tell TMZ, the imputation was the result of several unsuccessful surgeries done in an attempt to contain a bad infection growing inside Jamie’s leg. And although Jamie survived the major surgery, TMZ reports that Jamie is still not doing well.
As Mamas Uncut previously reported, Page Six was the first to report the news of Jamie’s hospitalization after two of their inside sources close to the family confirmed that the 71-year-old was severely ill at one point, but is now on the mend.
“Jamie has been suffering with a bad infection that has required surgery. He has been hospitalized for weeks in a special infectious disease facility,” one of their sources said. Jamie was also hospitalized in August after dealing with complications from a knee replacement surgery he had done in the mid-2000s.
It’s unclear if the two hospitalizations are connected.
Doctors initially thought something was wrong with Jamie’s kidneys when he was hospitalized in August, but they later determined he had developed an infection in his knees. At the time, Jamie had lost nearly 25 pounds as he was in and out of medical care – eventually undergoing surgery to clear the infection.
It was also recently reported this week that Jamie Lynn Spears abruptly left the reality show she was competing on due to medical reasons. Although Jamie Lynn hasn’t shared any specifics, people are wondering if this is the reason why she left.
According to E! News, Spears was competing on I’m a Celebrity…Get Me Out of Here! when she made the decision off-camera to leave the show early. “Jamie Lynn Spears has left I’m A Celebrity…Get Me Out Of Here! on medical grounds. She’s been a fantastic campmate who has triumphed at trials and bonded well with her fellow celebrities.”
During the first several episodes of the show, Spears admitted to missing her family, so much so that she would break into tears multiple times. Jamie’s last appearance on the show was on November 29. Prior to her departure, the other contestants were notified of her decision to leave.
Jamie himself has not yet issued a statement on this matter. We wish him a successful recovery, whatever that may look like.
