Jamie Spears Talks Conservatorship, His Grandkids, and His Relationship With Kevin Federline in Latest Interview With ‘The Mail on Sunday’

Jamie Spears, the father of Britney Spears, is opening up for the first time since his daughter’s 13-year conservatorship came to an end last month. He sat down with The Mail on Sunday to give his side of the story and, as you can likely imagine, it differs from the narrative provided by Britney and her legal team.

The conservatorship, which started in early 2008 following one of Britney’s mental breakdowns, gave Jamie full legal responsibility over his daughter, including her financial and personal affairs. It stayed that way until recently, when a judge terminated the conservatorship after months of intense court hearings.

During those court hearings, Britney made a number of disturbing, harrowing, and serious accusations against Jamie Spears – even calling out her sister, Jamie Lynn Spears, at one point. Nonetheless, her father is maintaining his innocence and defending his actions/decisions made over the past 13 years.

“My understanding of a conservatorship is to help someone regain their life and return back to society, and to be able to live normally. I want to say that I made a difference,” said Jamie in the interview. “She had no money whatsoever. The conservatorship set a resource where she could get back financially.”

He went on to explain that no one – referring to the media, lawyers, judges, etc. – seems to have a clue what the truth is. While he acknowledged the ‘beating’ he’s taken online, especially since the start of the ‘Free Britney’ movement, he says he doesn’t mind taking those punches because he knows it’s not true.

Jamie also spoke about Britney’s two sons – Sean Preston and Jayden James – and claimed that Britney would’ve never had a chance to connect with them if it weren’t for the conservatorship. And while Jamie got to spend a lot of time with his grandkids, he confirmed that he doesn’t get to see them much today.

“I miss my two boys really, really bad. I do. You know, we were very, very close. They were around that age where you could start having a good time with them. But they were developing a mind of their own,” he said, adding that his family is currently a mess and that all he can do right now is continue to pray.

Jamie Spears Details His Relationship With Kevin Federline

Jamie Spears and Kevin Federline, the ex-husband of Britney Spears and the father to their two sons, had a good relationship through most of the conservatorship – largely due to wanting what’s best for the kids. Things took a turn for the worse in 2019 when Federline filed a restraining order against Jamie.

The restraining order, which has since lapsed, was filed after an incident that saw Jamie break down a locked door that Sean Preston was behind before shaking him uncontrollably. Now, the two are back in contact and are even co-authoring a book on fatherhood together. Jamie hopes his family can repair itself.

“Each individual has got lots of work to do,” he said. “I don’t know if some of them want to do the work or not. It’s going to be a tough thing, but that’s the goal. Like I say, family’s not in good shape right now. That’s all I can say. It’s better — but we’ve got a lot of work to do,” said Jamie in his recent interview.

“Not everybody’s going to agree with me. It’s been one hell of a time. But I love my daughter with all my heart and soul. Where would Britney be right now without that conservatorship? And I don’t know if she’d be alive. I don’t,” added Jamie. Despite the criticism, he believes the conservatorship was a ‘great tool.’
