Despite their request to push up their next court date being denied, Jamie Spears has agreed to step down as his daughter, Britney Spears’s conservator. This is a big win, and ultimately what Britney and her lawyer were fighting towards.
According to TMZ, Jamie’s lawyer filed legal documents that say, “There are, in fact, no actual grounds for suspending or removing Mr. Spears as the Conservator of the Estate … and it is highly debatable whether a change in conservator at this time would be in Ms. Spears’ best interests.”
However, despite defending himself, Jamie Spears also wrote that he is no longer wants to be the target of attacks from Britney’s fans. “Nevertheless, even as Mr. Spears is the unremitting target of unjustified attacks, he does not believe that a public battle with his daughter over his continuing service as her conservator would be in her best interests.”
Jamie Spears Defends Himself as He Steps Down as Britney Spears’
“So, even though he must contest this unjustified Petition for his removal, Mr. Spears intends to work with the Court and his daughter’s new attorney to prepare for an orderly transition to a new conservator,” the documents continued. “Regardless of his formal title, Mr. Spears will always be Ms. Spears’ father, he will always love her unconditionally, and he will always look out for her best interests.”
As Mamas Uncut previously reported on August 5, Spears’s attorney Mathew Rosengart made a request asking that the pop star’s father, Jamie Spears, be immediately replaced as her conservator.
Since 2008, Jamie Spears has been the sole conservator over the conservatorship his daughter has been under since her very public breakdown in 2007, after she became a mother of two. However, just recently, Britney Spears has started speaking out against the conservatorship, calling it abusive.
The filing stated, in part, “Every day that passes is another day of avoidable harm and prejudice to Ms. Spears and the Estate. As described in the Verified July 26 Petitions and filings under Probate Code Section 2650, Ms. Spears’s emotional health and well-being must be, and are, the paramount concern.”
Early this summer, Britney first spoke out against the conservatorship. The pop star has publicly said that she’s “not happy. I can’t sleep. I’m so angry, it’s insane.”
When it comes to expanding her family and starting a family with her longtime boyfriend, she said she can’t because “this so-called team won’t let me go to the doctor to take [my IUD] out because they don’t want me to have children. I want to be able to get married and have a baby. I was told right now in the conservatorship I am not able to get married and have a baby.”
It’s unclear what Britney Spears and her lawyers will do from this point. She has not yet made a statement since her father’s recent court filing.
