Jada Pinkett Smith took a page out of her daughter, Willow Smith‘s book and shaved her head. Now, she and Willow match and they both look great!
Everyone agrees Jada Pinkett Smith is rocking her new haircut.
Last week, Jada Pinkett Smith revealed her new look in an Instagram post. The picture is of her and Willow with matching hair staring right into the camera. Jada captioned the photo “Willow made me do it because it was time to let go BUT … my 50’s are bout to be Divinely lit with this shed.” Willow first shaved her head in 2012 at age 11, and since then it seems she has shown her mom the benefits.
All of Jada’s friends seem to agree too! Tina Knowles, the mother of Beyonce, is a major fan. She commented on the post, “Beautiful. It just shows that beautiful face and soulful eyes more prominently.” A fellow fan of the cut, Lena Waithe, made sure to show her support by commenting, “Perfection.” But Willow, as always, was her mother’s biggest fan and supporter, commenting, “You are DIVINE.”
Willow and Jada Pinkett Smith opened up about the criticism Willow received for originally shaving her head.
In a 2020 episode of Red Table Talk about mom-shaming, the conversation turned to the controversy around Willow shaving her head at 12. Pinkett Smith opened up about the “hardcore criticism” she and Willow received.
She explained, “When you first cut your hair, I mean, there was a firestorm.” The attacks the 12-year-old faced over her appearance at the time were brutal and nasty, but neither Jada nor Willow regret it at the time, as it was Willow’s way of getting back her freedom at the time.
Jada continued explaining why she knew they made the right decision, saying, “When people are like, ‘Oh my god, I can’t believe you shaved Willow’s head!’ If they could have seen this child’s expression of freedom looking at her hair falling to the ground.” Now, Jada has undergone that same experience of freedom, but with a very different response.
But the root of the idea for her haircut existed in her support for her daughter. Jada continued by saying, “So, me as a mom looking at that, experiencing that with her — there is nothing that anyone could say to me to tell me that it was wrong.”
