When Albert Connor‘s wife began chemotherapy, he desperately wanted to be there to support her. Unfortunately, because the world is also dealing with a global health crisis right now, he and his wife, Kelly Connor, were told that he wasn’t allowed to be in the room with her while she underwent treatment.
So instead of giving up, Albert just got creative. After finding the exact window of the room Kelly was in, he parked his car outside of it, popped open a lawn chair, grabbed a book, and created a sign that shows his support for his wife and his appreciation for those who are keeping good care of her.

The sign read, “I can’t be with you but I’m here. [Love] you. Thank you to all the staff.” According to Good Morning America, Kelly was diagnosed with breast cancer in January 2020. And when Albert was told that he wouldn’t be allowed to hold his wife’s hand as she battled cancer, he admitted that it felt like he was breaking his word.
“I didn’t feel right not being a part of it because I had promised her that I would be there every step of the way and I felt like I would be breaking my word,” he told Good Morning America. “I just got a poster board and our kids and I colored it.”
Kelly had no idea that her husband was planning to be there with her, even though he couldn’t be near her. Then she got a text from Albert, Good Morning America reports.
“As soon as he texted me, I just kind of lifted up in my chair a little bit to peer out the window and he was just right there. It immediately brought tears to my eyes and I felt a love for him right then in that moment, that he would do that for me.”
The kind gesture from the loving husband made Kelly’s nurses tear up as well. “I think I kind of gasped and the nurse turned around and said, ‘What’s wrong?’ And then she saw I was looking out the window and she looked out and started to tear up too.”
And several additional nurses made their way outside to personally thank Albert for his kindness. As Albert told Good Morning America, many even told him that he was the reason they came to work every day. “The attention made me uncomfortable but it made me feel good and was very touching.”

And Kelly’s Facebook friends enjoyed the public display of support as well. “Gave me goosebumps to see him through that window to be there for you,” one commenter wrote. “True love at it’s finest!! Prayers for you and the family.”
Kelly will continue her chemotherapy treatments through the end of May. She will then undergo surgery and begin radiation. And Albert vowed to continue to find ways to prove to his wife that even when he can’t be there for her physically, he will still be there for her no matter what.
Furthermore, Albert also closed his locksmith business so that he could stay home and not put his wife at any additional risk. He added that he hopes their whole family will be able to watch Kelly ring the bell at the end of her chemotherapy, but if not, he plans to be outside the hospital on that day with a bell of his own.
