A mom writes in asking for advice after her husband called her “silly” for allowing their daughter’s “gay guy friend” sleepover one night. The mom said she has “gay guy friends” too and doesn’t see the difference in allowing girls sleepover like her husband allegedly does. Any advice for this mom?

A member of the community asks:

“Good afternoon, mamas! Tell me I’m not the ‘silly’ one here as what I was referred to for letting my daughter’s gay guy friend sleepover. They’re 13 and 15, by the way. She has lots of friends sleeping over from time to time, so I didn’t think it would be such a big deal. I have gay guy friends too so, what’s the difference with him? Oh, and it is my husband who doesn’t like this.”

Advice Summary

It seems like a lot of other moms seem to be in agreement with this mom’s husband.

One commenter wrote, “I had a gay guy friend once, he ended up being bisexual I guess and he told me that my boyfriend was going to cheat on me when he went away to college blah blah blah. Went to a concert with him and he made me feel uncomfortable when he touched my arm and stuff. Needless to say my boyfriend never cheated on me, we are married now and have a child. I say NO do not allow him to sleep over, he may be into girls too.”

Another mom said, “I mean, I don’t think I’d let them share a bed, any more than I’d let my lesbian child share a bed with another girl. But I’d let them sleepover in separate rooms.”

And one person added, “Orientations don’t matter, no boys allowed. Dinner? Sure, but no sleepovers unless maybe there’s a guest room.”
