A woman writes in asking for advice about her husband. She says that he has always taken at least an hour in the bathroom “to poop,” but lately, that time has been getting even longer. It recently reached three hours. She says he takes his computer into the bathroom. He is defensive when she asks him to explain what, exactly, is taking so long. Is she overreacting? What should she do?

“Does anyone else’s husband take 3 hours in the bathroom?
Has anyone’s husband taken 3 hours in the bathroom? I always wondered if it’s possible for someone to really be just pooping for that long. It was only 1 hour in the past, then it kept increasing and today was 3 hours. Who the hell takes that long to poop?
He takes his computer and headphones with him, and he gets really angry if I dare to disconnect the internet while he’s in there and when I ask him about it he always comes up with excuses like poop just kept coming out, or I sit there until I poop he gets really offended if I mention that he might just be doing something else in there. It’s gotten to the point where I tell him that in a couple more years, he’s gonna take the whole day just to use the bathroom. Forgot to mention that this is an everyday thing, every morning he gets up at around the same time and stays there until lunchtime sometimes.”

Advice Summary
The community offered this mom in need a lot of great advice. Read some of their responses below.
“If it takes 3 hours he needs a doctor… On the other hand, try some laxatives in something he eats. Won’t be 3 hours the following day!”
“Oh heck…. had a friend with this same thing going on. Hours!! He was addicted to adult movies. And reaching out to other women. No, it’s not normal… and no you’re not crazy for asking him about it. He gets offended because he’s guilty of something. Plain and simple.”
“Remove the toilet paper from the bathroom and see if he notices. That will answer the question as to whether or not he’s actually pooping.”
“I’d threaten to take him to the doctor. If he wants to claim it really takes that long, then there’s a medical issue and you’ve already made him a doctor’s appointment. See what he’ll try then.”
“Set him up with a colonoscopy… the prep will get everything he’s ever eaten out… no more poop for a day or two. And while he’s sedated, start asking questions…”
“He’s defensive because he is doing something he shouldn’t be doing. That’s way too sketchy. He is up to something. He needs to tell you the truth or you need to take the very next opportunity you get to check his computer out when he isn’t home or is sleeping. The only way you will know the truth is if you look.”
“Whatever it is, 3 hours of it is excessive, which means he’s dealing with one addiction or another. Tell him to knock it off! Good Lord, men are such babies…”
“He really wants to hide what he is doing. Most likely watching adult movies or talking to another woman online. Who needs a laptop in the bathroom? No one. He’s not going to leave breadcrumbs for you to have proof that he is cheating. You need to catch him because what he is doing is obvious and also most likely will deny your accusations till his last breath unless you have proof. Hidden camera in the bathroom?”
“Not to scare you but it does sound really sketchy. My ex used to spend the same amount of time in there also with his computer and I ended up finding out he had been doing drugs in the bathroom and was also cheating. He was also defensive too and I didn’t know until I found the paraphernalia under my sink. Regardless, if he is spending that much time in the bathroom and getting defensive when you ask why, being his wife, he is HIDING something for sure.”
“Hide the toilet paper… if he’s pooping, he’ll need it. If he comes out and doesn’t mention it… bingo!”
