Giving birth under normal circumstances can be nerve-racking and scary if you’ve never done it before. Giving birth while the world is dealing with a global pandemic only adds a layer of stress no matter how many newborns you welcomed into the world.
However, knowing that your newborn child is getting the best care and protection thanks to the countless health care professionals putting their own lives on the line can often help with that added fear. According to CafeMom, many maternity wards are putting newborn babies in a mandatory quarantine immediately after they are born.
Now, the world is getting to see the infants who are being specially taken care of. These photos were taken at Paolo Hospital Samutprakarn in Thailand.
While in quarantine, newborn babies are given extra protection against COVID-19 by having little protective shields placed on their tiny, precious heads. “We have extra protection measures for little ones and friends, with face shield for newborns. So cute!” the hospital said of their precautionary measures, according to the Independent.

And while it is believed that those with specific preexisting conditions and the elderly are most at risk of COVID-19, the virus has still proved dangerous and deadly for those who are young and otherwise healthy. As Mamas Uncut previously reported, an infant less than a year old in Illinois was the youngest known patient to test positive for COVID-19 and pass away.
IDPH Director Dr. Ngozi Ezike said in the statement at the time that “there has never before been a death associated with COVID-19 in an infant. A full investigation is underway to determine the cause of death. We must do everything we can to prevent the spread of this deadly virus. If not to protect ourselves, but to protect those around us.”
