It was just five months ago that Homer Laffoon was faced with the reality that he won’t ever see his mother, Anne Heche, again. She tragically and unexpectedly passed away on August 11, 2022, due to injuries sustained from a fiery and violent car crash a week prior. No one else was injured in the crash.
To make matters worse, her son has been involved in a heated legal battle with her ex-partner, James Tupper. Homer was named administrator of his mother’s estate following her death – something Tupper doesn’t agree with. Most of Homer’s statements since then have been in response to the legal battle.
On January 5, 2023, Homer Laffoon took a moment to thank the growing amount of love and support he has received in the months since his mother’s death. He expressed as much in a lengthy, touching, and heartwarming post published to his mother’s official Instagram account – which he now has access to.

“Hi Everybody, Homer here,” wrote Homer Laffoon in the Instagram caption. “First things first, from August to now, the amount of love, care, and support shown by those on social media and [in real life] has been overwhelming and blessedly received – thank you,” he continued, adding he’s taking it one day at a time.
“I’m sure the healing journey will be a long one. Your good thoughts and well wishes will continue to comfort me on my path,” he wrote, before shifting the focus to his mother. “I have a responsibility to share with her community what she was working on and how excited she would have been to tell you herself.”
He went on to explain how his mother had a completed manuscript for a second memoir titled Call Me Anne – her first memoir, Call Me Crazy, was published in 2001. Her newest memoir takes a deeper look at her life and attempts to give her fans more context to some of the claims she made in her first book.
“The book is the product of mom’s further efforts to share her story and to help others where she could. … I know she was excited to share with the world. So, mom, here I am sharing it with the community you created, may it flourish and take on a life of it’s own, as you would have wanted,” added Homer.
Homer Laffoon Will Honor Anne Heche With Book Premiere Event
Homer Laffoon had more exciting news for his mother’s fans. In an effort to celebrate Anne Heche’s life, her illustrious career, and her unrelenting love for writing, there will be a special event held in her honor at the Barnes & Noble at The Grove – in which Heather Duffy will participate in the reading and signing.
Heche and Dufy launched a podcast together in 2020 – titling it Better Together – and built a loyal following as they talked about their personal experiences in life. “I know mom would want to see everyone’s smiling face as she read an excerpt and signed copies,” wrote Homer in the Instagram post.
Her second memoir was brought up several times on the podcast. She originally titled it Call Me Sane, but eventually changed the name to Call Me Anne before submitting it in manuscript form in September 2022 – just a few weeks before passing away. The book will be released on January 24th, the day of the event.

“I don’t plan on using this platform too often but know she loved her fans, loved writing (she wrote endlessly) and it would not feel right not to reach out at a time like this. As mom liked to sign off – Peace and love, Homer,” he concluded the Instagram caption. Fans are excited to finally read the memoir!
