Last year, actress and singer Hilary Duff became a mother of two and got engaged to her 1-year-old daughter’s father.
Over a year later, Duff and her now-husband Matthew Koma exchanged handwritten vows on December 21 during a ceremony that took place in their front yard. Shortly after officially becoming husband and wife, Duff shared intimate details from their big day.

In a video produced by Vogue, the mom of two revealed the details behind her gorgeous and clean ivory wedding dress. However, aside from the beauty of the custom-made dress, Duff also revealed the sentimental details as well.
In Vogue’s YouTube video, Duff revealed that she had her and Koma’s initials and wedding date embroidered on the train, as well as her children’s initials. Duff and Koma became parents together in 2018 when they welcomed a baby girl, Banks, into the world.

Duff is also the proud mom to a 7-year-old little boy Luca from a different relationship. “They’re part of our ceremony and obviously, the biggest part of our life. Maybe someday Banks will want to wear my dress,” Duff told Vogue.
She continued, “The end result of what we came up with, with Jenny and my gown, is exactly how I wanted him to see me. I think how he would envision what I would look like, as a bride…You know, not some like big, puffy, beaded thing…It would be very gorgeous but toned down.”
Duff took to Instagram to share a photo of her and Koma on their big day:
Koma also shared the same photo with the caption, “for the rest of forever… 12.21.19.” The designer who designed her wedding gown also designed Banks’ flower girl dress. However, the couple has yet to share a group photo of their family of four.
Also in the video, Duff revealed just how Koma asked her to marry her. While sharing the romantic story, Duff teared up.
“When Matt proposed to me, we were living in New York and I was working on a TV show. I’d had a very long day, so he was like, ‘Let’s go on a walk. You’ve had a long day, let’s just get out and chat and catch up. There’s this new park I want to take you to.’ So we’re walking through this park in Dumbo, and it’s on the water and it’s gorgeous. And all of a sudden he’s like, ‘I’ve been working on something for you, you’re going to love it.'”
That’s when Koma showed her a handwritten book that he made that told the story of their relationship. Then at the very end, there was a spot on the page where she could lift it up, revealing the engagement ring he was about to propose with.

“So I get to the very last page and there’s a little piece that I have to lift up. It was an orange. We call each other ‘half-orange,’ — like, ‘You’re my half-orange.’ And that’s just an inside thing that no one would understand. But it was a little orange sketched on the page, and I lifted it up and my ring was inside. I’m going to get really choked up. It was so sweet, it was really special and really simple, which is very much how we are and how we operate.”
So sweet. Congratulations, Hilary and Matt!
