18-year-old Hannah Jones recently came home for a surprise visit from college only to be shot in the arm after her mother mistook her for an intruder.
Her mom told police in Girard, OH that she was at home by herself and not expecting anyone. She was taken by surprise when her daughter opened her bedroom door when she arrived home around 9 pm on Friday.

John Norman, the Girard Police Chief, reported that the mother fired one shot from a .38 special revolver and shot her daughter in the arm. Jones’ elbow was broken in three places as a result. She went through surgery to have eight screws and plates put into her arm.
“She had no idea I was coming and thought someone broke in to hurt her and as I ran through the door she was in fear for her life and shot me,” Jones said in a now-deleted Facebook post. She continued that she “crouched down and let out two screams” after the shot, then told her mom to call 911.
“It still baffles my mind to know that I could be dead, but thankfully I had an angel looking over me that night,” Jones also said in the Facebook post.
Police reported that they found the revolver on the bedroom floor. The mother was visibly shaken after the incident. Police noted she does have a concealed weapons permit.
Jones was treated at a local hospital and released, 21 News reported. Jones shared on Facebook that she will have a “long and painful journey and recovery.”
According to Fox News, Jones’ mom will not be prosecuted.
