Gwen Stefani is addressing the rumors swirling around the internet. Is she and Blake Shelton getting a divorce after just three years of marriage?
Stefani and Shelton met at a crucial time in their lives. Both of them were going through difficult divorces and leaned on each other while judging The Voice together.
As fate would have it, the unlikely pair fell in love and after six years of dating, became husband and wife. Their love story is a fairytale romance, but is it too good to be true?
In an interview with NYLON, Stefani talked about her duet with Shelton, Purple Irises, and how it came to be.
“I got you. And you got me. And do you still think I’m pretty? And are you happy,” some of lyrics read. “But if someone comes along and tries to love you like I love you. Don’t know what I’d do, don’t wanna lose you. If someone comes along and tries to take you, tries to make you. Don’t let ’em change your mind.”
As Stefani explained she was going through a difficult time of “questioning: ‘Oh my gosh, am I just getting older? Am I cute?’ when she wrote the song. She admitted those fears and doubts creeped in to her marriage to Blake as well.
“In my own relationship, even though I know the truth of what’s happening today, you still create drama in your own mind about your insecurities and what might happen,” Stefani explained. “I was in that phase of the relationship with Blake and getting paranoid.”
“It’s an insecurity we both have,” Shelton added. “These are conversations that she and I have with each other: ‘Are you still going to love me when I’m old or if I forget who I am?’”
Eventually, Stefani and Blake allowed themselves to see the truth; the pair is happy and in love nearly 10 years after their relationship began.
“The truth is I am in love with my best friend,” Stefani told NYLON, “and all this [stuff] I’m thinking of in my brain, that’s all it is; I’m overthinking.”
And while the rumors and lies about their marriage can get to be overwhelming, Stefani said their love is much stronger than the hate.
“When you’re in love and have truly aligned values, nobody can get to us. You can say whatever you want to say about our relationship—I mean, a week ago we were getting divorced again or something. It’s just lies. The truth is the truth, and we know what that is…”
Oh and the significance of purple irises? Well it’s a flower Stefani and Shelton found growing on his Oklahoma farm during the pandemic. The pair transplanted the irises and they are still thriving today.
Could it be fate?
