An adult male was arrested in April after he allegedly assaulted his mom over a squabble about toilet paper. According to BuzzFeed, 26-year-old Adrian Yan was charged with battery on April 6, after his mother allegedly hid rolls of toilet paper from him.
Shirley Miller, a spokesperson for the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department, said Yan’s mother hid the toilet paper from him because he was allegedly using too much at one time. And that’s when “things kind of escalated,” Miller told BuzzFeed.

It was after Yan’s mother reportedly put a “private person’s arrest” on her son that he punched his mother in the face. The disturbance was called into police around 3:00 a.m.
As BuzzFeed reports the mother’s injuries did not require medical attention, which she declined once first responders arrived at her house. According to Sheriff’s offices around the country, since stay-at-home orders have been placed in many states, there has been an uptick in family disturbance calls.
“People are cooped up together and getting on each other’s nerves,” Miller said. However, while many of the disturbance calls have stemmed from verbal arguments, Miller said that this is the first toilet paper related disturbance that has resulted in an arrest.
As Mamas Uncut previously reported, hospitals are also seeing an unfortunate uptick in child abuse cases as well. As Fort Worth’s Cook Children’s Hospital reported, they have had seven patients under the age of four in the past week who have shown signs of child abuse, according to CBS DFW.
“We knew an increase in abuse was going to occur, but this happened faster than we ever imagined,” said Christi Thornhill, director of the Trauma Program, the CARE team and Fostering Health at Cook Children’s Hospital. “I mean this happened in a week and these are really bad abuse cases.”
While it was never reported exactly why Yan’s mother was rationing the toilet paper, it can only be assumed that the mother was making sure they had enough to last the nationwide toilet paper shortage that transpired as a result of the global COVID-19 outbreak.
