Step-granddad Stephen Kachmar, 60, and grandma Penny Lee Bashlor, 64, are facing up to 70 years behind bars if found guilty on charges of non-capital murder, involuntary manslaughter, child abuse, and possession of a vicious dog, Waynesboro Police Department and the Augusta Sheriff’s Office said.

Parents Brooks Anthony Floyd, 39, and Alicia Rene Floyd, 37, were reportedly charged with cruelty/injury to a child.

The grandparents are being held without bail after a special grand jury indicted the four family members.

Brooks Floyd was being held in Middle River Jail, and Alicia Floyd was released on a bond last Friday, the police department said.

Police say the 7-year-old was attacked by the dog on Parker Heights Road at about 2:26 p.m. on Jan. 29. She was taken by ambulance to Augusta Health, where she later succumbed to her injuries.

Another woman was also injured. However, the police did not identify her.

According to the Staunton News Leader, the 4-year-old dog was seized and has since been euthanized. A neighbor informed the outlet in the aftermath of the killing that the dog was known to be dangerous.

Just a day after Olivia’s death, Kachmar was given a summons for harboring a dangerous dog, the outlet reported.

Olivia was remembered as a second-grader who loved cheerleading, gymnastics, dance, unicorns, and animals. Her family requested those attending her funeral to wear clothing “congruent with a celebration,” including the 7-year-old’s favorite colors, pink and purple.

A GoFundMe is currently in place for Olivia’s celebration of life and urges those who feel led to give to do so.

“As Brooks, Alicia, and little Ava navigate these difficult days ahead, we are hoping to alleviate the financial burden of the funeral arrangements through this fundraiser. We are thanking you in advance for every single prayer, message sent, outpouring of love shown, and donation given to this family during this unfathomable time.”
