An Arizona grandmother has pleaded guilty to shooting her two young grandsons to death. According to KVOA, both of the young boys had autism.
The children were left in Dorothy Flood‘s care after their mother died by suicide, three years ago. On Monday, January 27, Flood was sentenced to a total of 21 years in prison. As KVOA reports, she was given 10-and-a-half years for each of the boys’ deaths.
Grandma Who Killed Twin Grandsons Sentenced to 21 Years
The 56-year-old grandmother said in court, “I loved those boys. I never intended to harm them. I am so sorry that I did.”
On April 4, Flood was found unresponsive at the same time her 8-year-old grandsons were discovered dead. Flood had planned on taking her own life as well, but when the gun she used to kill the children jammed, she took a handful of pills.
According to the family, Jaden and Jordan Webb were non-verbal and wore diapers. After their mother’s passing, Flood had to quit her job to provide full-time care for her grandsons.
Flood was on depression medication at the time but had stopped taking it after losing her insurance, KVOA reports. According to prosecuters, a note was found at the murder scene.
“She in her letter said when she took the gun out of the drawer, she said, ‘I am sorry buddy, we are not getting better. They cannot help us, so we are going to leave, the three of us.’ She describes her run opening up his arms saying he understood.”
The defense described Flood as mentally unstable. “She shot Jordan in the stomach. Jordan is the boy who suffered GI problems. He was the one who held on to his stomach because he was in horrible pain. She shot Jaden in the chest. Jaden was the boy who suffered from asthma who couldn’t breathe.”

According to KOLD, Flood was originally charged with first-degree murder. She later took a plea deal in December 2019 which lessened the charge to manslaughter.
