A 19-year-old woman, who saw her mother murdered as a child, has suffered another tragic loss after her husband died during combat in Afghanistan.
Grace Ream, who is currently pregnant with her first child, was just two-years-old when she witnessed her father strangle her mother with a scarf. Her father then left the house, only to drive into a tractor-trailer a couple of hours later.
Grace, now grown, married PFC Brandon Jay Kreischer of the 82nd Airborne sixteen years after the tragic murder-suicide.

Now, Grace is suffering through another tragic loss after her husband was killed in Afghanistan. Brandon had been shot and killed by an Afghan soldier who was supposed to be working alongside his troop. He had been stationed in Afghanistan for less than a month when he was killed.
In addition to Brandon, the Afghan soldier had killed Spc. Michael Isaiah Nance, 24.
Grace, who is expecting a son just a few days after Christmas, is now preparing for the birth of her first child alone. The couple had already chosen a name – Callum.
Brandon was buried in August in Bryan, Ohio. He had written in his high school memory book, “Throughout my life, I have had one huge goal. That one was to enlist in the Army as an infantryman, and I achieved that goal on April 25, 2017. It was without a doubt the proudest day of my life. I am very proud to be an American. I believe that whatever cause America believes in, I have an obligation to believe in, because I am a patriot. If I die in a combat zone for America, I do not call it a tragedy, I call it a glory.”
Now, as Grace prepares for the arrival of their son, her family says she has not received any financial support from the government. They have set up a GoFundMe page for Grace and the baby.
“Because of what she’s been through you’d think she’d be a little hardened,” Grace’s sister, Ashley said. “But she’s fine.”
