Gospel singer Kirk Franklin has issued an apology after the profanity-laced conversation he had with his estranged son went public. According to Billboard, the 51-year-old took to his social media talking about the conversation he had with his son Kerrion Franklin.

It is believed the original call was the result of Kirk’s reaction to one of Kerrion’s Instagram posts shared earlier in the week. The Instagram post suggested that Kerrion was being blocked from seeing or having any childhood pictures of himself and his family.

Kerrion wrote, “I’m not allowed to have any childhood pictures of myself or my family. Some of the sh*t I see y’all complain about is so surface. I’ve been through the fire.”

Shortly after posting the complaint, Kerrion took to Instagram again to share a recording of a conversation he had with Kirk. During the 45-second clip, a voice identified as Kirk says, “I’ll put my foot in your a**.”

Kerrion replies by telling his father, “I dare you,” before Kirk replies, “I will break your neck ni***, Don’t you ever disrespect me.”

The clip ends with Kerrion telling Kirk he “didn’t” disrespect him. It was hours after the recording went viral that Kirk issued his public apology.

“Recently, my son and I had an argument that he chose to record. I felt extremely disrespected in that conversation, and I lost my temper, and I said words that are not appropriate. I am sincerely sorry to all of you. I sincerely apologize,” Kirk said in his apology.

In the video, Kirk explains that his relationship with this 32-year-old son has been “toxic.” He also noted that because of their broken relationship, they have attempted to mend it with therapy and counseling, albeit unsuccessfully.

He went on to say Kerrion didn’t post the part of their conversation where Kirk patched in their family therapist to help them rectify their problem.

“I’m not perfect, I’m a human, and I’m going to make mistakes, and I’m trying to get it right,” the singer added. “Please keep me and my family in your prayers.”

After posting the recording, Kerrion wrote that he didn’t want to do it, but he doesn’t think he can ever trust being around his father again. “I probably won’t release the entire recording because it’s too embarrassing that I’m even dealing with this. No matter what people think, I pray my dad deals with his deep hatred toward me. I don’t feel safe around him at all,” he wrote on Instagram.

Following Kirk’s apology, Kerrion released another recording of a conversation he had with his father. You can listen to that recording below.

Kerrion also claims that Kirk hung up rather than calling a therapist. It is unclear where the father and son will go and the actions they will take from here.
