Gabrielle Damron, 8, decided to surprise her dad’s final military flight by marshaling him in.

John Damron served a total of 20 years as a pilot in the United States Air Force
When his flight landed at Charleston Air Force Base, he was met with an overwhelming amount of love — and and hose water!
“I knew the kids were going to be there but it surprised me that my daughter was directing me in.”
“I have to admit, I was pretty emotional,” the father admitted.
Many viewers were tearing up over the entire interaction (as anyone would)-!
One user commented: “Me: I’m not crying, you’re crying. Also Me: There’s something in my eye, where’s my tissue?”
While another commenter took the time to explain the entire tradition:
“To explain this a bit, he’s not returning from a deployment or long absence. This is called a fini flight or final flight. They’re typically normal mission flights in the local area. Depending on the kind of airframe (aircraft) some do fini flights every time you PCS (move to another assignment) while others reserve them only for separation/retirement. I know in the fighter community they did fini flights for PCS moves and family got to be involved. I’ve been active duty for 25 years so I’ve been to quite a few over the years but none mattered as much as my late husband’s and getting to share it with our 4 kids.”
