George Floyd was a father of two when he died on May 25. Now his 6-year-old daughter is remembering him on his first Father’s Day in heaven.
On June 21, Gianna Floyd took to her Instagram, which is run by the adults in her life, and shared a photo of her and Floyd when she was just an infant. The caption read, “Happy Fathers Day in Heaven, Daddy… look I took a picture of us with Rainbow on my first photo lesson… I hope you love it.”
Shortly before sharing the above Father’s Day message, Gigi also shared a video of herself talking about her late father. “When I was a baby, daddy would do everything for me,” she told the camera when asked what she thought about the picture of her dad holding her has a baby. “Like change my diaper, feed me, and put me to bed.”
Gigi also remembered one of the birthdays they spent together and Floyd took her to Chuck E. Cheese and her daddy let her play all of the games.
“He was strong and good and good to me. And he was fun.” As the caption shared, celebrating Father’s Day without her dad around was hard on Gigi.
“On set of her shoot per GiGi’s request. She is her father’s child for sure. Today is a very hard day for GiGi but she is so strong and smiling with her head high. Happy Heavenly Father’s Day, George and Happy Father’s Day to all the fathers around the world…”
As Mamas Uncut previously reported, Floyd was killed by former officer Derek Chauvin after he was accused of using a counterfeit $20 bill and was seemingly under the influence. While being detained by Chauvin and the three other responding officers, Chauvin kneeled on Floyd’s neck for 8 minutes and 46 seconds.
Despite begging for his life, Chauvin only stood up when Floyd lost consciousness and was put into the back of an ambulance. He was transported to a hospital where he was pronounced dead. Floyd’s passing sparked a new motivation for millions of people and the Black Lives Matter movement.
