Gayle King couldn’t be more proud of the new role she’s recently been promoted to! The role of grandmother!
According to Entertainment Tonight, King became a grandmother last week after her daughter welcoming a baby boy into the world. King revealed on CBS Mornings that Kirby Bumpus and her husband Virgil Miller named their baby boy, Luca Lynn Miller.
New Grandmother Gayle King Reveals She Got to Meet Her Favorite Grandson for the First Time
During the broadcast, Gayle King said, “Please allow me to introduce to the world Luca Lynn Miller. His middle name Lynn.” She then explained where his middle name came from and the beautiful meaning behind it.
“Virgil lost his brother earlier this year so little Luca has his uncle’s middle name. We already call, his initials are LLM so we call him LL Mill. LL Cool Mill.”
King said she was able to travel to meet her grandson for the first this past weekend. “It was the Lion King scene where they hold the baby up,” King joked. “That’s how I felt about this child. I have wanted to be a grandmother for a long time.”
“It’s really something when you see your own child become a parent. I am so nuts about it. I was holding him, Kirby was like, ‘You have to support his neck.’ I said, ‘Yeah, OK, I actually know how to do this.’ But I am so grateful.”
She ended her sentiments by congratulating her daughter and son-in-law, adding that she now has a “favorite grandson. I didn’t even wanna hand him back when he was crying. I didn’t wanna let him go.”
Just a few weeks ago, Gayle King shared a photo of her and her daughter at her daughter’s baby shower! Both of the women were sporting big smiles and gorgeous dresses.

Kirby and Virgil got married in 2020 in front of just six people. Gayle admitted that it wasn’t the wedding they had planned but she couldn’t be more excited that her family is expanding.
In an earlier segment, Gayle admitted that she doesn’t want to be called grandma or nana, but rather something cooler! It’s unclear if she came up with a name for herself yet, but she has a little bit of time yet before her grandson starts calling her by her name!
