Actor, singer, producer, EGOT winner, father John Legend, according to People, is 2019’s Sexist Man Alive. And not only that but according to Chrissy Teigen, he’s also the sexiest husband and father alive.
However, while Teigen seems thrilled about her husband’s new title, writing on Twitter, “the sexiest man alive just made me a ham sandwich,” their children couldn’t really care less.
In an interview with People, Legend admitted that he was shocked to learn that the magazine had decided to crown him with the title of Sexiest Man Alive.

“I was excited, but I was a little scared at the same time because it’s a lot of pressure. Everyone’s going to be picking me apart to see if I’m sexy enough to hold this title. I’m [also] following Idris Elba, which is not fair and is not nice to me!”
He added to that on Instagram, writing, “1995 John would be very perplexed to be following 2018 Idris Elba as #SexiestManAlive. Hell, 2019 John is about as equally perplexed but thank you, People, for finding me sexy. I’ll take it.”
However, in his interview with People, the Sexiest Man Alive had no interest in talking about himself but rather chose to talk about his wife and two children, Luna Simone and Miles Theodore. He opened up about how their struggle to get pregnant with their two children and their journey with IVF helped them grow stronger as a couple.
He also talked about what it was like watching Teigen struggle with postpartum depression. “[Parenthood] deepens your love for your partner because you see them in a different light going through, in our case, the trouble of actually having a kid.” He continued:
“Then Chrissy’s going through postpartum depression. You just see different sides of that person, and if you go through it and you learn from it and you come out the other end better for it, then it deepens and strengthens your relationship.”

The husband and father also opened up about his awkward years that started in middle school and lasted until college. And in an effort to compensate for his awkwardness and his social immaturity (always being two years younger than his classmates), Legend told People that he would often use his musical talent to try and impress girls he liked.
He joked that “it wasn’t extremely effective at age 12 but I got better at it. I eventually wrote All of Me. It’s got about two billion views now.” All of Me is the song he wrote about his wife of six years, who he says is the one person who can bring him out of his shelf better than anyone else.

And now that they are parents, Legend says he’s excited to see how their two very different ethnic backgrounds will enrich Luna and Miles’ lives.
“It’s interesting because our kids see all their grandparents quite a bit. They have a white grandparent who’s 80-years-old, a Thai grandmother who’s a lot younger and plays with them all the time. They have my mom and my dad, and they get a little bit of different vibes from all of them.” Legend continued:

“I think their lives are going to be interesting in that way because they’re going to get different cultures. A little bit of this, a little bit of that. I think it’ll be a cool thing for them growing up to get exposed to so many different things.”
The EGOT winner is also hoping to see his background in and love of music passed on to his two little ones. He said it’s one of his greatest joys seeing Luna and Miles start to discover music. “I love seeing my kids discover music and playing on the piano with them. They make us laugh all the time.”
Legend also talked about the close bond he has with his 3-year-old daughter, saying she’s so much like Teigen that “it’s uncanny.” He gushed:
“Luna has a sense of actual comedy. She is so much like Chrissy it’s uncanny. I guess that’s why we get along though. We hang out together all the time. I love taking her to school and I’ll take her to lunch just the two of us a lot.”

And as for his 18-month-old son? Well, Miles is a lot like Legend, he says. Miles is “a little more mellow like me.” But that doesn’t mean the toddler doesn’t constantly entertain his parent. “He just runs around and falls. He’s like a wrecking ball! We laugh a lot.”
Nonetheless, regardless of being People‘s Sexist Man Alive, Legend said, “I’m so proud that I have a wife and two kids I’m so in love with and so connected to. I’m also so proud of my career. I love writing songs and performing on stage. I get a lot of joy from it and give a lot of joy to other people. I’m pretty at ease with myself now!”
