I Tried A Strict 5-Day Fasting Diet: Here’s My Day 4 Reaction

Strict Fasting Diet Nut Bar Breakfast

I started a 5-day fasting diet from Prolon this week, and today has been the most challenging day so far. I’m keeping daily diaries of my meals and how I’m feeling – you can read the previous days here: Day 1, Day 2 and Day 3. I want to clearly state that this is an honest accounting and review of my experiences while on the Prolon diet. It’s not a paid promotion and I have no affiliation with the company.

To recap my description of the fasting diet, this is a fasting diet with food. There is no universe where I could stick to a 5-day fast without nourishment. When you order this diet program, Prolon sends you five mini boxes (one for each day) filled with food to consume on the fast. The diet consists of soups, olives, crackers and nut-based bars, along with omega-3 oil and vitamins. The company says that they provide a proprietary balance of macronutrients with their food that mimics fasting.

The goal of my fasting diet is to lose weight. However, there are many other benefits to fasting diets. Many studies show that it can fight inflammation, improve heart health and boost brain functions. And it could delay aging and increase longevity, too! There are so many potential health benefits to a fasting diet, that I wanted to give it a try. Keep reading to see my meals and reaction to Day 4 of the fast!

5-Day Fasting Diet: Day 4

Struggling with the fasting diet today.

I woke up this morning feeling like I didn’t have much energy and was actually a little weak. I’m not surprised, because the food yesterday was the most limited so far on the diet. There was no afternoon snack, and only soup suggested for dinner yesterday. And there was no dessert bar either, which was a huge disappointment. I look forward to that little chocolatey treat.

However, I did notice that I left the L-Drink water bottle in the refrigerator and forgot to drink the last 4 oz for the day. If I had that, I might have felt better this morning. I’m hoping I feel better after breakfast.

Breakfast is the same nut-based bar and herbal tea as the previous mornings. I’m feeling extremely low energy right now and cannot wait to eat this small nut bar. I do really like the bars and would enjoy eating them even if I wasn’t on this diet. But while I am eating this morning, I am thinking about how on edge and bitchy I feel. I am starting to doubt if I will make it through today.

Lunch on Fasting Diet Day 4 at 1:30 pm

I feel so drained right now. I’m happy that it’s lunchtime, but I am tired of eating soup. And today’s lunch soup is very basic. It’s vegetable soup and it doesn’t have any large chunks of veggies or grains – just tiny little pieces that look like fish food floating around in the liquid. The soup smells good and I am excited there are olives and vitamins included in the meal.

Honestly, at this point, I don’t know if I will continue this diet much longer. I want to do it because I like completing things I set out to do, but it is a major struggle today. During lunch, I’m thinking about what I would want to eat for dinner if I wasn’t on the fast. I keep thinking about eating regular food all afternoon. I just want a sandwich or pizza. I decide to have two cups of herbal tea and more energy drink. Those help me feel a little better.

Dinner on Fasting Diet Day 4 at 6:30 pm

I am beyond hangry this afternoon. I keep thinking that I should just eat a normal dinner with my husband and forget this fast. I want to eat dinner early today because I am afraid if I don’t, I will just cave and grab my usual afternoon snack (string cheese). But I am busy with the baby and not able to eat until 6:30 pm.

Dinner tonight is minestrone and quinoa soup, olives with Italian herbs (saved from the snack) and a chocolate crisp bar. I’m so excited the chocolate dessert bar is back! I really enjoy the minestrone and quinoa soup because it has peas, zucchini and larger chunks of veggies, as well as the quinoa. It’s more gratifying than a pure liquid soup.

5-Day Fasting Diet: Day 4 Reaction

I got on the scale this morning and there was no change in my weight. I think the fact that I didn’t see any weight loss negatively affected my mood this morning. I want to know that I am doing this for a reason and that it’s working. I’m aware that weight fluctuates and that losing weight each day isn’t the goal of the fast. But I am still disappointed.

Is this chocolate bar really good, or am I just hungry from this fasting diet? #diet #hungry #fasting #fyp #fypツ #letsgo #whatsgoingon #dinnerwithme #eatingshow

Rough day, but trying to enjoy the fasting diet dinner.

Today, food was on my mind all day and I was feeling sluggish. It was hard not to eat the whole Day 4 box at once, instead of spacing out the meals. During the morning and afternoon, all I want to do is eat something more substantial than soup. I kept telling myself to stick with it, but the thought of ordering takeout tonight was persistent.

It wasn’t until I ate dinner that I felt much better. It was like something switched in my body and I felt a euphoria of some sort. I was feeling clear, fulfilled and comfortable when I went to bed around 10:30 pm. I’m continually surprised by the fasting diet and thankful that I made it this far. I’m feeling grateful that I didn’t quit on the first day. I’m feeling thankful that I’m experiencing the ups and even the downs.
