Model and Actor Emily Ratajkowski can now add “mom” to her list of titles. The 29-year-old and her husband, Sebastian Bear-McClard, welcomed their first child together on Monday.
The star revealed the baby news with a birth announcement on Instagram. She shared a photo of herself breastfeeding her newborn on Thursday along with a sweet caption that included the baby’s very distinguished name.
Emily Ratajkowski welcomed her first baby, Sylvester Apollo Bear, on Monday, March 8, she revealed to fans.
“Sylvester Apollo Bear has joined us earth side,” Emily Ratajkowski shared on Instagram. “Sly arrived 3/8/21 on the most surreal, beautiful, and love-filled morning of my life.”
The Lying and Stealing actor shared her pregnancy news in an essay published in Vogue in October. In the essay she argued that she would not be revealing the sex of her, then, unborn child because she expects her baby to conform to the gender of their choosing.

“When my husband and I tell friends that I’m pregnant, their first question after ‘Congratulations’ is almost always ‘Do you know what you want?'” the essay opens. “We like to respond that we won’t know the gender until our child is 18 and that they’ll let us know then,” Ratajkowski wrote in October.
“Everyone laughs at this,” she wrote in the essay. “There is a truth to our line, though, one that hints at possibilities that are much more complex than whatever genitalia our child might be born with: the truth that we ultimately have no idea who — rather than what — is growing inside my belly.”
“Who will this person be?” she asked. “What kind of person will we become parents to? How will they change our lives and who we are? This is a wondrous and terrifying concept, one that renders us both helpless and humbled.”
“I like the idea of forcing as few gender stereotypes on my child as possible.”
“I don’t like that we force gender-based preconceptions onto people, let alone babies,” Ratajkowski resolved. “I want to be a parent who allows my child to show themself to me. And yet I realize that while I may hope my child can determine their own place in the world, they will, no matter what, be faced with the undeniable constraints and constructions of gender before they can speak or, hell, even be born.”
We are not going to argue with this mom’s outlook on gender!
Ratajkowski married producer and actor Bear-McClard in 2018 at City Hall in New York City in a surprise ceremony.
We knew her interest in having kids in March of 2020 when Ratajkowski did a Q&A on Instagram. She was asked if she saw kids in her future and she replied, “Yes! I just have a lot of stuff I want to do with my life and I want to be the best mom I can be … so we shall see.”
In a nude maternity selfie less than a year after the remark, she shared her thoughts on her pregnancy body writing in a caption that she would miss it following birth. “Sometimes I feel like Winnie the Pooh in human form, other times like a fertility goddess with a juicy butt,” she wrote at the time.
“I took this on a day where I was feeling the latter. Either way I know I’m going to miss this bump and those kicks very soon,” the caption concludes.
We are so excited to have followed along Emily Ratajkowski’s pregnancy journey. Her descriptors, “beautiful, surreal, and love-filled” probably describe the experience of childbirth for a lot of new moms. Congrats!
