Just days after revealing that he lost vision in one of his eyes, legendary singer Elton John is sharing his children’s heartbreaking reality.
In September, Elton announced on Instagram that he’s “been dealing with a severe eye infection” that “has unfortunately left me with only limited vision in one eye.”
“I am healing, but it’s an extremely slow process and it will take some time before sight returns to the impacted eye,” the singer shared with his fans. “I am so grateful for the excellent team of doctors and nurses and my family, who have taken such good care of me over the last several weeks.”
Elton said that he’s “been quietly spending the summer recuperating at home, and am feeling positive about the progress I have made in my healing and recovery thus far.”
Now, Elton sharing how his health issues have affected his children, sons Zachary and Elijah.
During a showing of his new documentary at the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) on Sept. 6, Elton revealed that his young kids often “think about my mortality,” People reported.
“They worry about my mortality,” Elton is heard saying in the documentary. “Not so much David (Furnish), but me.”
Elton said his kids hope for him to be around for their big life moments, and at 77 years old, Elton worries about that too.
Zachary and Elijah “love their daddy, so they want me to be around forever, [and] I would love to be around forever,” he said.
“I want to see them have children and get married. I don’t think I’m going to be around for that. Who knows?” the singer said. “You never know.”
“So that’s why I want to use the best time — the best of my time — while I’m around. Time together is so wonderful and so precious.”
On Instagram, Elton excitedly announced the Disney Plus documentary about his career that will be available for streaming in December.
”It’s here! Very excited to share the first look at the key art for Elton John: Never Too Late! This documentary is such a special journey through the memories, music, and moments that have shaped my life,” he wrote.
Elton retired from the stage in 2023 following a lengthy world tour. His and David’s focus is now on their sons, who are 13 and 11.
“We’ve got our sons, you know, they’re getting into their teenage years now,” Furnish said in a past interview. “We don’t want to miss anything. We want to be present for that. It’s sort of a key decade, I think, in a child’s life.”
Furnish added, “He’s been doing it for 60 years, so it’s nice to have that time to spend at home with the family.”
