Elton John reveals he’s lost vision in his eye following health battle

Legendary singer and performer Elton John is speaking out about an ongoing health issue he’s been dealing with.

In a statement shared on Instagram, John revealed that “over the summer, l’ve been dealing with a severe eye infection.”

As he continued, John wrote that the eye infection “has unfortunately left me with only limited vision in one eye.”

“I am healing, but it’s an extremely slow process and it will take some time before sight returns to the impacted eye,” the singer shared with his fans. “I am so grateful for the excellent team of doctors and nurses and my family, who have taken such good care of me over the last several weeks.”

John said that he’s “been quietly spending the summer recuperating at home, and am feeling positive about the progress I have made in my healing and recovery thus far.”

John didn’t go into details about what type of infection affected his eye so severely or how the infection occurred.

Fans and friends were quick to share their well wishes with the singer in the comment section. “Sending our love and support your way. Feel better soon, friend,” Billie Jean King wrote.

“Sending you so much love Elton! Feel better soon. Love you,” Donatello Versace added.

“Take your time and recover, Elton. We’ll be here waiting for your return when you’re healthy and ready,” TJ Osborne shared.

Just last week, John excitedly announced the Disney Plus documentary about his career that will be available for streaming on Dec. 13.

”It’s here! Very excited to share the first look at the key art for Elton John: Never Too Late! This documentary is such a special journey through the memories, music, and moments that have shaped my life,” he wrote.

John, a husband and father of two, retired from the stage in 2023 following a lengthy world tour. Since then, he and his husband, David Furnish, said they are focused on their sons, who are now 14 and 12.

“We’ve got our sons, you know, they’re getting into their teenage years now,” Furnish said. “We don’t want to miss anything. We want to be present for that. It’s sort of a key decade, I think, in a child’s life.”

Furnish added, “He’s been doing it for 60 years, so it’s nice to have that time to spend at home with the family.”
