The 31-year-old started the post with brutal honesty, admitting that her first 25 weeks of pregnancy were not what she thought they would be. “I’m sorry I haven’t been promoting my album properly or on social media more. This whole thing has been a bit of an ordeal.”

The singer continued, “[I] had some complications early on, a decent second trimester but starting to hurt everywhere at 25 [weeks]. I feel like I was woefully ill-prepared cuz I dunno if pregnancy is as visible or discussed as it should be. I just didn’t [really] understand what I was getting into.” The expectant mom didn’t go into detail about what those complications were.

Grimes then asked her fans how they “cope with working and having a baby?” Yet, despite feeling overwhelmed and unprepared, Grimes said that there have been some good times too.

“It’s been good too, but it makes working a lot harder,” she shared. “Good at writing and having lots of wild ideas tho, but anything physical is hard. I’m also way more emo and less capable of bravery in the face of haters online and stuff haha.”

She concluded that she decided to return to Instagram in order to promote the album she is creating that is expected to drop soon. However, she warned her fans, “Don’t mind my emo energy, but curious what other [people’s] experience was like. I didn’t even google it, I was just like, ‘Sure, why not?’ hahaha [shaking my head].”

The singer opened up about her relationship with Musk, 47, and the unexpected amount of attention it has received during an interview with WSJ Magazine. “I was simply unprepared,” Grimes said of the attention.

She continued explaining how she felt about her relationship being national news, “I’ve just been wallowing in indie music for, like, a decade … I just thought I could keep going along in my funny little way, and then you casually respond to someone in a tweet and it’s on Fox News, and you’re like, ‘Ugh,’ you know? That was a very disturbing moment.”

Yet despite all the attention, the expectant mom admitted the unwanted spotlight is worth the love she has for the father of her child.
