By now, we’ve all heard about the rumored ‘cage match’ between Mark Zuckerberg and Elon Musk. While many of us were under the impression it was nothing more than ‘back-and-forth internet banter,’ one voice in the mixed martial arts (MMA) community says they’re more serious than originally thought.
Speaking with TMZ Live on Thursday (June 22), UFC President Dana White described both Zuckerberg and Musk as ‘absolutely dead serious’ about the cage match. In fact, White firmly believes it would be the biggest fight in the history of fights with the potential of raking in nearly $2 billion in pay-per-view earnings.
“Talked with Mark and Elon last night, both guys are absolutely dead serious about this,” Dana White revealed to Harvey and Charles on TMZ Live on Thursday. “The biggest fight of all time was Floyd and Conor, I just think it triples that — it triples what that did, there’s no limit on what that thing can make.”

According to Dana White, it was Mark Zuckerberg who reached out to him first – initially asking him if Elon Musk was serious about the ‘cage match.’ That led White to reach out to Musk for a response, which is when Musk confirmed he was ‘dead serious.’ Now, White is treating it just like any of his other fights.
“If these guys are serious, I make fights that people want to see. That’s what I do for a living. So if they really want to do it and they’re serious and we can figure out a way to pull this off, I would absolutely positively find a way to do this,” White said – and he wasn’t mum to the records the fight would break.
Dana White fully believes the fight would raise hundreds of millions of dollars for charity – which would be the primary motivator behind the fight taking place. Considering these are two of the richest men in the world, they would each choose a charity and raise a ‘crazy’ amount of money for their respective causes.
As for details of the fight, White is still trying to hash those things out. He said it would be the main event of a much larger card and it would cost around $100 on PPV. White believes it could generate triple the revenue as the Conor McGregor and Floyd Mayweather fight in 2017, which brought in $600 million.
The Origin of the Mark Zuckerberg and Elon Musk ‘Cage Fight’
So, how did this all come about? Well, it first started when Elon Musk commented on a report that Mark Zuckerberg was launching a product that would compete with Twitter – the social media platform Musk purchased last year. His response started a back-and-forth between the two billionaire tech giants.
“I’m sure Earth can’t wait to be exclusively under Zuck’s thumb with no other options. At least it will be ‘sane’. Was worried there for a moment,” Musk said on Twitter. He was later warned by a Twitter user that Zuckerberg has been training and competing in Brazilian jiu-jitsu, but that didn’t scare Musk away.
“I’m up for a cage match if he is lol,” Musk added. Zuckerberg then took to his Instagram Story to post a screenshot of Musk’s response – adding ‘send me location’ in a text overlay. On Wednesday evening, Musk then confirmed ‘Vegas octagon’ as the purported location – hence why Dana White got involved.

And for those wondering, it would be a much better fight than some are giving them credit for. Zuckerberg has experience in jiu-jitsu and recently medaled in his first-ever competition, while Musk has tried MMA in the past and was adamant to White about the many fights he was a part of growing up in South Africa.
