Self-quarantine and isolation have a lot of drawbacks. And there’s no doubt about it: being at home all day with your family can certainly strain relationships.
Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson shared a video over the weekend detailing how he and wife Lauren Hashian have been coping with self-quarantining together and even shared that, despite hardships, they have managed to strengthen their relationship.
After a couple of fans asked The Rock how his marriage has been affected by social distancing, he posted an 8-minute video with a caption that sums up the highlights of his honestly-very-good advice for all relationships during this crisis.
“Helluva question! The effect the quarantine has on my marriage,” his caption begins. In the video, he humorously explains that a couple of different people sent in the same question for him to answer. A wife asked him to share the positive effects quarantine has had on his marriage, while a husband, who says he got married around the same time as The Rock and Hashian did, wrote in asking for help in coping with his marriage under these difficult circumstances.

“I have found that the quarantine has had a very positive effect on my relationship and my marriage,” The Rock says in the video. “Certainly my relationship with my daughters,” he adds.
The Rock and Hashian share two daughters, Tiana (2) and Jasmine (4). The Rock also has an older daughter, 18-year-old Simone, from a previous relationship.
In the caption of his video, The Rock sums up both his experiences and his advice, saying, “@laurenhashianofficial and I are doing our best during these stressful times. We realized kinda quickly how critical it was for us to be ultra considerate, caring and empathetic of one another.
Be even better listeners. Even better communicators.”
He continues:
“Recognize that during these times, we’re not operating at full brain & emotional EQ capacity as we usually are. You’re gonna get snippy, short tempered and you guys may erupt at each other over some silly sh** like we did. When that happens, grab your partner by the shoulders, like I grabbed Lauren. Look them directly in the eyes and say with full [100 emoji] conviction, ‘baby, you’re not wrong…. you’re just not used to being right’ and then count the seconds it takes for you both to belly laugh your asses off. Then sip some @teremana later that night and make some more babies. You’re welcome.
Stay healthy, my friends.
Dr. Rock”

In the video, The Rock says that when quarantine started, he was “really wobbly” at first in his attempts to deal with the changes to his family’s lifestyle and routines. For the first two weeks, he says, he struggled. “I found myself consistently apologizing to Lauren. About every other day. ‘Hey I’m sorry, but this is not my best week…'”
“We try to go easy on each other, to go light and not get too judgy,” he adds after explaining that he feels “a lot of pressure” in facing “the fear of the unknown,” the way many of us do.
Not content with just general platitudes, The Rock shares in his video an example of a “snippy” fight he’d recently had with Hashian. He explains that the two of them were attempting to have a quiet breakfast in bed alone. Then, he says, she said something dumb that he interpreted in a certain way, and things quickly escalated. Hashian left to finish her breakfast in the bathroom, while The Rock says he stewed for a few minutes before going into the bathroom to shave. He then explains that, as he began shaving his face, Hashian deadpanned, “By the way, I used that shaver to shave the dog’s balls last night.”
The Rock lets out a huge belly laugh, adding, “But wait! I didn’t crack. I stayed in it.” He explains that he watched Hashian take another bite of her breakfast and said, “That’s funny, because I had the dog sh** in your breakfast this morning.”
He says that they both started laughing and the tension between them immediately dissolved. They wondered what they’d even been fighting about.
The point, The Rock says, is to let people know that they’re “going through the dumb sh** too.” He later adds, “Now’s the time to really try and do your best, to communicate and articulate your feelings as best you can.”
