Donny Osmond and Merrill Osmond spent decades performing their unique sound in front of crowds across the world. Unfortunately, those memories came to an end in April when Merrill took to the stage for the last time in the US – bringing an incredible 60-year career to an end.
Merrill’s last performance came in Las Vegas, a show his brother attended. There was a point in the show where Merrill asked his brother to join him on stage – not to sing, but to embrace a moment they’ll never experience again. As you can imagine, it was a very emotional moment.
Donny later took to Twitter to share a photo of that moment – calling it a night he’ll never forget. “As I watched him, I turned into a fan myself as I sang along with all of the other fans packing the Westgate theater, where we performed together in the 70s,” said Donny in the caption.

In a later tweet, Donny explained how he couldn’t help but give his older brother a giant hug as he sang his closing song. “Yes, it took all of us to create The Osmonds, but it was Merrill’s voice that created the sound. It was an amazing moment. Thank you, my brother,” Donny continued.
At the height of their career in the 1970s, Donny and Merrill were joined by brothers Jay, Alan, Wayne, and Jimmy – forming the band The Osmonds and later The Osmond Brothers. Some of the biggest hits include Let Me In, Love Me For a Reason, and I’m Still Gonna Need You.
In November 2019, Donny Osmond suffered a major health scare when he suddenly lost all feeling in his arms and legs while on stage in Las Vegas. He eventually had neck and back surgery to fix an issue with his spine, but the scare continued with a secondary infection.
While Donny wasn’t able to move, he eventually started to learn how to walk again in what turned out to be a year-long journey. Thanks to his ‘faith, a lot of hard work, and positive thinking,’ Donny was able to recover and even made a return to the stage – where he belongs.
His Brother Might Be Retired, But Donny Osmond Continues to Perform
When Merrill Osmond performed for the last time back in April – though his actual final show took place on October 19 in the UK – the music industry said goodbye to one of the greatest musicians of all time. While we’ll never get to see him perform again, we still have Donny!
Donny Osmond recently announced a slew of live show dates in 2023 as he continues his residency at Harrah’s Las Vegas – of course, that’s in addition to the shows he already has scheduled throughout the month of November. Here’s a quick look at the new 2023 dates:
