Dolly Parton is one of the most beloved, decorated, and celebrated singer-songwriters of all-time. She has entertained audiences and listeners for more than 50 years and is showing no signs of slowing down anytime soon – even at the age of 77! When she sings (or speaks, even), people tend to stop and listen.
We’re talking about a country music star who has sold more than 100 million records worldwide, was inducted into nearly 20 different Hall of Fames, has been nominated for 50 Grammy Awards (and won 11 of them), and has composed more than 3,000 songs throughout her career. Her resume is unmatched.
And that resume continues to grow. With her newest album set for a November release, she’s adding a bit of hardware to her trophy room. The country music icon was recently presented with three new Guinness World Records to add to the seven she already had – bringing her total to 10 Guinness World Records.
The first record she broke was ‘most studio albums released by a female country singer’ – Dolly Parton released 65 studio albums over the course of her career. Her first studio album, Hello, I’m Dolly, was released on September 18, 1967 and her newest album, Rockstar, will be released on November 17.
The second record she broke was ‘longest span of No. 1 hits on the US Top Country Albums chart by a female.’ Her first No. 1 album came in 1977 with New Harvest… First Gathering and her most recent No. 1 album came in 2020 with A Holly Dolly Christmas. The record spans a total of 43 years and 156 days.
The third record she broke was ‘most top 10 entries on the US Top Country Albums chart by a female’ – Dolly Parton had 48 studio albums crack the top-10. Her first top-10 album was Just Between You and Me (1988) and her most recent was Diamonds & Rhinestones: The Greatest Hits Collection (2022).
“I am humbled every time I receive a new Guinness World Records title. I share these three new honors with my fans, who have allowed me to enjoy such a long career,” Dolly Parton said at her ceremony in Nashville, Tennessee – where Official Adjudicator Michael Empric presented her with the three records.
What Other Records Does Dolly Parton Have?
Like we mentioned above, Dolly Parton was already the owner of seven Guinness World Records, bringing her career total to 10 – a true testament to her legendary and iconic career. And since her career is far from over, we wouldn’t be surprised if she’s presented with more World Records in the near future.
Here’s a quick look at the seven other records she currently holds:
- First country music singer to be nominated for an Emmy, Grammy, Oscar, and Tony Award
- Most decades with a Top 20 hit on the US Hot Country Songs chart (6)
- Most decades on the US Hot Country Songs chart by a female (7)
- Most No.1 hits on the US Hot Country Songs chart by a female artist (25)
- Longest span of No.1 hits on the US Hot Country Songs chart (35 years, 26 days)
- Most Grammy nominations for a female country artist (51)
- Most hits on the US Hot Country Songs chart by a female artist (109)
Among the many Hall of Fames she belongs to include the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame (2022), Country Music Hall of Fame (1999), Songwriters Hall of Fame (2001), Music City Walk of Fame (2009), Hollywood Walk of Fame (1984 and 2018), Gospel Music Hall of Fame (2009), and more than a dozen more.
