Rock made a G.I. Jane joke towards Smith’s wife, Jada Pinkett Smith, who has been rocking a shaved head since late last year. Smith revealed that she shaved her head after dealing with hair loss, known as alopecia.
Smith’s outburst continued following his aggressive behavior when he screamed at Rock to “keep my wife’s name out of your f*cking mouth.” Mamas Uncut also reported that immediately after the incident took place, rapper and producer Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs took the stage to present an award as well.
Before introducing the nominees, Diddy commented on the scuffle between Will Smith and Chris Rock and promised that he was going to help the two of them make amends during the Oscars’ Gold After Party. And according to Diddy, himself, that’s exactly what happened.
While talking with Page Six, Diddy allegedly told the magazine that it’s all over now. “That’s not a problem. That’s over. I can confirm that,” Diddy told Page Six.
However, the producer did not elaborate on the details of their reconciliation. As Mamas Uncut previously reported, the Los Angeles Police Department issued a statement saying Rock denied pressing charges against Smith.
“It’s all love,” Diddy admitted. “They’re brothers.”
According to Vanity Fair, Smith and his entire family, including his wife, and his three children, Trey, Jaden, and Willow, were seen laughing and partying together at the after-party. It’s been reported that Smith danced in the middle of the dance floor with his Oscar in hand as the DJ played his hit song, Getting Jiggy With It.
“I want to apologize to the Academy. I want to apologize to all of my fellow nominees. This is a beautiful moment, and I’m not crying for winning an award,” Smith said while accepting his award. “It’s not about winning an award for me; it’s about being able to shine a light on all of the people.”
Neither of the parties involved has made statements regarding the incident. Smith, with tears in his eyes, apologized to The Academy and his fellow nominees during his acceptance speech but has yet to explain himself publicly.
