After news of his son’s passing went public, Dana Carvey is speaking out again. This time he is thanking his fans for their support during this difficult time and also announced a break from acting.
“This is just to say thank you. My wife and I have been overwhelmed by your love, your personal stories, your compassion,” Dana wrote.
“We received so many beautiful messages from people who knew Dex. These touched us more than we could ever express in words. I will be taking a break from work and social media, trying to figure out what life looks like now that we are a family of 3.”
Dana concluded his statement, adding, “We will heal the best we can and carry on. Our darling Dex would have wanted it that way. Much love.”
As Mamas Uncut reported on November 17, legendary comedian Dana Carvey has shared some heartbreaking news with his fans.
Carvey’s son, whom he shares with is wife, Paula, has passed away. Dex Carvey was just 32 years old.
According to initial reports, his suspected cause of death is drug overdose. In a statement shared by Dana, he wrote, “Last night we suffered a terrible tragedy. Our beloved son, Dee, died of an accidental drug overdose.”
As the statement continued, Dana wrote that his son was only 32 years old. “Dex packed a lot into those 32 years. He was extremely talented at so many things — music, art, film-making, comedy, and pursued all of them passionately.”
“It’s not an exaggeration to say that Dex loved life. And when you were with him, you loved life too. He made everything fun. But most of all, he loved his family, his friends, and his girlfriend, Kaylee. Dex was a beautiful person. His handmade birthday cards are a treasure. We will miss him forever.”
The statement concluded with a message to anyone struggling with addiction. “To anyone struggling with addiction or who loves someone struggling with addiction, you are in our hearts and prayers.”
According to People, Dex was discovered inside his home on November 15.
Dex and his father loved to work together. He opened for Dana’s 2016 Netflix special and also acted alongside him in Joe Dirt 2.
Dana has continued to memorialize Dex on his social media account since making the devastating announcement. In one post Dana hit back at the tabloids reporting rumors about Dex’s passing.
And in another, Dana shared a photo of the father-son pair working side-by-side with massive smiles on their faces.
