In a tragic accident, a mother inadvertently suffocated her 4-month-old son after having a heart attack. According to Detective Greg Bacon of the Tempe Police Department in Arizona, 38-year-old Larinique Meadows had “some sort of heart condition, heart episode,” which resulted in her falling on top of her son by accident.

At the time of the incident, 3TV reports that Meadows was on her phone looking up symptoms and causes of chest pains. Police believe that shortly thereafter, she died and fell on top of her son, Denari, suffocating him.

When the father woke up around 5:00 p.m., after working a night shift, six hours after seeing his wife and son alive for the last time, he discovered Meadows dead, laying on top of their son. Police said that there is no foul play suspected in the incident. Bacon continued:

“This looks like it’s a health-related issue. Father seems to be very hard-working, trying to provide for his family, works nights, ran some errands that morning for the family, specifically for the baby. So, it’s just a very tragic situation, and we mourn for them.”

Meadows did not show any signs of trauma, according to CrimeOnline. It is not clear if she had any underlying medical conditions which could have caused the heart attack.

“It’s very, very sad, and we mourn for that family,” Detective Bacon said during a press conference. “Our officers also, it’s a very difficult time for them.” The Maricopa County Medical Examiner’s Office is in the process of confirming Meadows and her son’s cause of death.
