Amidst George Floyd‘s heartwrenching death, many have discussed racial injustices around the globe. And while there are no exact words to exactly capture the grief and rage felt by the black community, Ciara is doing her part to find them in a message to her son.
Ciara took to social media on Sunday to write to her 6-year-old, Future Zahir, a moving note along with a selfie of the two. She shares Future Zahir with ex, Future.
“My sweet Baby Boy. I pray that when you get older A CHANGE will finally have come!! I’m going to keep my FAITH! I’m praying that the losses of our Black Kings and Queens won’t be in vain.”
Ciara continued, “Enough is Enough! I’m praying for UNITY! I’m praying for the powers that be to unite and decide that it’s time for a change!”
Russell Wilson, Ciara’s husband and NFL quarterback (with whom she shares three-year-old daughter Sienna Princess) was quick to show support, commenting:
“Young King. We need a change now. Enough is Enough.”
And on June 1, Wilson posted to Twitter, encouraging his followers that “we can make a change.”
Ciara’s message echoed multiple celebrities who have been using their platform to bring attention to the unjust treatment experienced by BIPOC communities.
Beyoncé asked her fans to “raise their voices” and demand justice for George Floyd, pushing not to “normalize this pain” this past weekend.

Husband Jay-Z, also took to his company Roc Nation’s Instagram account, urging those who are in positions of power to have the courage to do what is right.
“Have the courage to look at us as humans, dads, brothers, sisters and mothers in pain and look at yourselves,” he wrote.
