Christopher Andersen, an author known for his reporting on the Royal Family, released a new book titled The King: The Life of Charles III on November 8. The book is filled with new insights into the life of King Charles III, who became the 62nd British monarch when he ascended to the throne on September 8.
In the book, Andersen details one of Charles’ deepest regrets and it involves the death of his then-wife Princess Diana – more specifically, the decision to make his two sons, Prince William and Prince Harry, walk behind their mother’s coffin. Andersen added he thinks it ‘haunts him because it haunts them.’
Prince William was 15 years old and Prince Harry was 12 years old at the time. Just one week after their mother passed away, they were forced to walk behind the coffin for nearly 35 minutes. To make matters even worse, there were thousands of people in attendance and several billion others watching on TV.

Andersen goes on to detail how Prince Harry was the most triggered by the walk – adding he still feels triggered anytime he has to fly to London as it reminds him of that fateful day. Apparently, the boys – along with Princess Diana’s brother – were ‘more or less bullied into doing it by Buckingham Palace.
“I think both William and Harry thought, ‘Who are these strangers who never met her?’ So, they were angry about what had happened. And Charles, I think, understands that to some extent he was responsible for them having to suffer through [that],” Andersen continued to explain in his latest book.
Prince Harry eventually opened up about the experience and how difficult it was – both at the time and to this day. He felt like someone should’ve prevented it from happening. “I don’t think any child should be asked to do that, under any circumstances. I don’t think it would happen today,” said Harry back in 2017.
For those hoping to hear more of Harry’s story – through his own recollection – he is set to release his newest memoir titled Spare in January 2023. It’s expected to be filled with ‘raw, unflinching honesty,’ which will likely ruffle some feathers – especially considering everything that has transpired recently.

Among the many topics covered in The King: The Life of Charles III by Christopher Andersen was King Charles III’s apparent crush on singer/actress Barbra Streisand. The two have quite a long history, dating back to the 1960s when Charles first grew fascinated with Streisand while studying at Cambridge.
The book details how Charles would spend a lot of his time listening to Streisand albums – despite his friends listening to the Rolling Stones or Led Zeppelin. “People look at me in amazement when I say she is devastatingly attractive with a great deal of sex appeal,” Charles once said, according to the book.
The two first met in the mid-1970s on the set of the Funny Lady sequel. While they only chatted for about 15 minutes, Charles wishes he could’ve stayed longer. She later serenaded Charles in 1994 and they were also seen being ‘affectionate’ with one another at a fundraising dinner – according to a staffer.

Barbra Streisand isn’t the only celebrity Prince Charles has openly confessed his attraction towards. He also spoke highly of Joan Collins, noting how ‘amusing’ she was in a letter – the two danced together during a Royal tour of the US in the mid-1980s. Charles has been married to Queen Camilla since 2005.
