Old tweets created by Chrissy Teigen are coming under fire. The tweets are dated back to 2011 and reveal the intense bullying of Courtney Stodden by Teigen herself.
You may know Stodden by the many headlines and reality show they starred in after she married then 50-year-old actor Doug Hutchinson when they were just 16 years old. The former couple remained married from 2011 to 2020, when their divorce became final.
The couple never grew their family, but now Stodden is opening up about the online abuse they received during those years, some of which came from mom and model Chrissy Teigen. During their marriage to Hutchinson, Stodden was ridiculed and judged for their behavior, outfits, appearance, and more.
During an interview with The Daily Beast, Stodden alleged that Teigen “wouldn’t just publicly tweet about wanting me to take ‘a dirt nap’ but would privately DM me and tell me to kill myself. Things like, ‘I can’t wait for you to die.'”
TMZ shared screenshots of some of the tweets that were written by Teigen back in 2011 and 2012 where she addressed Stodden directly:
As the tweets show, Teigen would verbally harass Stodden multiple times. And it wasn’t just Teigen, but other popular names in Hollywood also targeted Stodden, they revealed to The Daily Beast.
“And not only her, but Joy Behar had a field day with calling me a ‘sl*t.’ Courtney Love told me I was a ‘who*e.’ People came out of the woodwork to beat up on a kid because she was in a situation that she shouldn’t have been in. There were a lot of celebrities acting like playground bullies. Some of the worst treatment I got was from women, and we’re not going to get anywhere if we keep holding each other back.”
At the time of the interview, Stodden admitted that none of the celebrities who targeted them ever reached out later to apologize for their behavior. However, that is now changing.
In a statement she shared on Twitter, Teigen is apologizing to Stodden for her past treatment of the now 26-year-old. Her series of tweets began saying, “Not a lot of people are lucky enough to be held accountable for all their past bullshit in front of the entire world. I’m mortified and sad at who I used to be. I was an insecure, attention-seeking troll. I am ashamed and completely embarrassed at my behavior.”
Nonetheless, she knows her words don’t make it better. “That is nothing compared to how I made Courtney feel. I have worked so hard to give you guys joy and be beloved and the feeling of letting you down is nearly unbearable, truly. These were not my only mistakes and surely won’t be my last as hard as I try but God, I will try!!”
Teigen ended her statement by saying, “I have tried to connect with Courtney privately but since I publicly fueled all this, I want to also publicly apologize. I’m so sorry, Courtney. I hope you can heal now knowing how deeply sorry I am. And I am so sorry I let you guys down. I will forever work on being better than I was 10 years ago, 1 year ago, 6 months ago.”
And while Stodden said they have accepted Teigen’s apology, she questions whether it is sincere or not. “I accept her apology and forgive her,” Stodden wrote on Instagram. “But the truth remains the same, I have never heard from her or her camp in private. In fact, she blocked me on Twitter. All of me wants to believe this is a sincere apology, but it feels like a public attempt to save her partnerships with Target and other brands who are realizing her ‘wokeness’ is a broken record.”
Teigen has not responded to this particular post as on May 13.
