Chrissy Teigen Opens Up About Postpartum Depression Struggles, Social Media, and Motherhood

Chrissy Teigen Net-A-Porter

Chrissy Teigen recently sat down with Net-a-Porter for some real talk about maternal mental health, motherhood, fame, and her relationship with recording artist John Legend. As huge fans of the social media maven’s candor, this honest conversation did not disappoint.

The cookbook queen, host, and model shares two kids — Luna, 3, and Miles, 1 — with husband John. After the birth of their daughter, Chrissy courageously opened up and let the world in on her struggles anxiety and depression. She describes losing her appetite, lacking the energy to walk up a flight of stairs, and experiencing mysterious aches and pains in her body.

Due to the abundance of resources and support at her disposal, Chrissy reveals that she initially felt ashamed of her struggles. “John was great and helpful. My mom was here… I was embarrassed.” Thanks to her work/life balance, going back on the medication Lexapro, and finding her flow as a mom, Chrissy now feels lighter and back to herself.

Aside from vowing not to post photos that their kids might one day find mortifying, nothing is off limits when it comes to the couple’s social media channels. “There’s nothing that happens that we really feel we can’t post,” Teigen tells Net-A-Porter. “We don’t want to post pictures of the kids that they may see in ten years and be embarrassed by, but that’s it. We’re not pretending that life is perfect.”

However, it’s refreshing to know that even mamas with the most moxie have moments of oversharing online. “Everything ‘big’ I’ve ever said was just heat of the moment and sometimes very regrettable. I just pop off too quick. Honestly, it’s good to learn that’s not necessarily the way to go every time.” We feel you, Chrissy!
