Chrissy Teigen, who is pregnant with her third child, recently shared with her followers that she is using Botox. But she’s not using it to fill in wrinkles or for any cosmetic reason.
Instead, Teigen is using Botox to help treat her “really bad pregnancy headaches.”

Chrissy Teigen says she has been getting really bad pregnancy headaches. As a treatment, she was approved to use neck muscle Botox.
“I get really really bad pregnancy headaches,” Teigen shared with her followers on Twitter. “Was thrilled to be cleared to do neck muscle botox along with a crazy combo of beta blocker shots and radio wave frequency something something doctor terms.”
Sounds scientific! Just kidding.
Teigen concluded her tweet, “Anyhow many it’s just so bad but I see the light finally,” alluding to what is hopefully a lasting relief for her headaches.
In follow up tweets, Teigen responded to fans wanting to know more about how Botox works for headaches.
“Ugh. More info please!!!!,” one fan wrote. “Not pregnant but going on 3 weeks of a headache that’s presumed to be a migraine not even touched by over the counter meds and only dulled by migraine medications. Looking for another option besides neurology!”
Teigen responded, “Jaw Botox for my grinding was a MUST for my regular headaches. You can also do behind the brow for migraines. Life changing.”
One fan responded and said that she normally gets Botox to treat migraines but was not allowed to use it when she was pregnant. Teigen responded, “Yeah if you have the means to go to a neurologist instead of cosmetic it’s a lot better and safer because they talk to your OB.”
Obviously, Teigen has the means and resources to use such a treatment
Is Botox safe for pregnant women?
Botox injections use “onobotulinumtoxinA” a toxin that temporarily prevents muscles from moving, per the Mayo Clinic. It is primarily used to smooth wrinkles, but it is also used to treat other conditions like neck spasms, hyperhidrosis (excessive sweating), lazy eye, and even overactive bladder. They are often also used to treat migraines.
The Mayo Clinic states that “doctors generally recommend against using Botox when you’re pregnant or breast-feeding.” But according to a limited study from Journal of Neurology, Neurosurgery, and Psychiatry, Botox “appears to be relatively safe for both expectant mother and fetus.
So while it seems Teigen has done her homework and consulted with the appropriate doctors, we’d advise you do the same before considering using Botox injections to treat headaches — or anything else — if pregnant.
And we’re pretty sure Teigen will keep us updated on her pregnancy headaches and whether the Botox ended up helping her. If nothing else, what an interesting solution to a common problem!
