Cameron Diaz, 52, is thanking one person, in particular, as she ends her 10-year hiatus from Hollywood.
“My husband, he’s just the best,” she said of her husband, Benji Madden, while speaking at the 2024 Most Powerful Women Summit on Oct. 15, according to E! News. The event was hosted by FORTUNE.
“He was just like, ‘You’ve been supporting us and building the family,’” she added. “And supporting him in his businesses. He’s like, ‘It’s time for us to support you and let mommy ascend and do her do her thing.’”

Diaz and Madden started dating after meeting at a dinner party in May 2014. They got engaged seven months later and tied the knot on January 5, 2015.
The wedding, which was held at their Beverly Hills residence, came just one month after the release of Annie. That film would end up being Diaz’s last before taking her break from Hollywood.
And that break ended up lasting a full decade, but now she’s ready to make her return to the big screen.
Diaz explains the reasoning behind her hiatus
Diaz has been open in the past about why she decided to step away from acting in 2014, with the primary reason being to raise a family. And that’s exactly what she and Benji have been doing.
“I think it really comes to what are you passionate about? For me it was to build my family,” she said of the hiatus.
The couple welcomed a daughter, Raddix Madden, in Dec. 2019, and a son, Cardinal Madden, earlier this year. Raddix turns five years old in two months, while Cardinal is just six months old.
Cardinal’s arrival was announced in a joint post on Instagram on March 22. “For the kids safety and privacy we won’t be posting any pictures- but he’s a really cute,” they wrote in the caption.
At the 2024 MPW Summit, Diaz said her hiatus “felt like the right thing for me to reclaim my own life,” adding that she “didn’t care about anything else” at the time.
“Nobody’s opinion, nobody’s success, no one’s offer, no one’s anything could change my mind about my decision of taking care of myself and building the life that I really wanted to have,” she continued.
In addition to starting a family, Diaz also founded an organic wine brand, Avaline, in 2018 with entrepreneur Katherine Power. The company officially launched in July 2020.
Diaz is returning to the big screen in 2025
Diaz made her film debut in 1994, alongside Jim Carrey in The Mask. Her role in that film catapulted her to become one of the biggest stars in Hollywood throughout the late 1990s and 2000s.
Some of her best films include There’s Something About Mary (1998), Charlie’s Angels (2000) and its 2003 sequel, the Shrek franchise, What Happens in Vegas (2008), and Bad Teacher (2011).
Her last film was Annie, which was released in Dec. 2014.
Now, nearly 10 years later, Diaz is set to make her return in the upcoming Back In Action film, which will be released in Jan. 2025. She’ll be starring alongside a familiar friend, Jamie Foxx.
“I couldn’t say no to Jamie,” Cameron said on Monday. “He said, ‘Come with me.’ And I was like, ‘Okay, let’s do it.’ It’s our third film together.”
The two stars also worked together in Annie and Any Given Sunday.
