When it comes to being a parent, for many, the most dreaded moment of parenthood is knowing that one day, they will likely move out and become independent. And while that is the ultimate goal, that doesn’t make the moment your child first leaves the nest any easier.
Recently, actress Brooke Shields revealed that she has lived through that dreaded bittersweet moment over the weekend after she dropped her 18-year-old daughter Rowan off at school for the first time. Rowan grew up with her famous parents in New York City, however, it seems as though she traveled to North Carolina for school.

In an Instagram post Shields shared on August 22, the proud mom wrote of her child, “My unique and extraordinary baby girl spreading her wings.”
She continued by adding, “I love you so. We are so proud of you. This was the saddest drive away from anywhere I’ve ever had to make. But my baby is BEGINNING one of the most important adventures of her life to date…NOW!”
Shields accompanied the sweet caption with a carousel of her and Rowan, their whole family of four in Rowan’s dorm room, and also an emotional video of herself crying as they drove away from the college. Several of Shields’ famous friends offered their support and congratulations in the comments section.
Ali Wentworth wrote, “I got the net right here ready to catch you!!!!” Christie Brinkley wrote, “Major milestone, emotional moment!”
Shields and her eldest child seem very close. As Mamas Uncut previously reported, even for her senior prom, Rowan honored her famous mom by wearing one of her past award show dresses.
Last month, Shields was soaking up all the time she has left with her baby girl. She posted a photo of her and Rowan enjoying time on their boat. “Thankful my college bound still wants to fall asleep on mom’s lap,” she wrote.
