In an update regarding the saga that is pop star Britney Spears‘ conservatorship, her dad wants to be reappointed as a co-conservator and her conservatorship as a whole has been extended. The singer’s conservatorship began in 2008.
Over the last few months, Spears’ fans have been concerned about the 38-year-old, believing that her conservatorship, which she has been under for years, has been causing her to be unwell. In a petition submitted to the Superior Court of California in August, Spears’ 68-year-old father, Jamie Spears, called to have him and Andrew Wallet, “an attorney who once helped oversee the singer’s finances, reinstated as her co-conservators, People reports.

In fact, in an interview with Page Six, Jamie called the #FreeBritney movement, which aims to get the mom-of-two’s conservatorship terminated, “a joke.” “All these conspiracy theorists don’t know anything. The world doesn’t have a clue.”
As a result of the filing, a hearing has been scheduled for Septemeber 16. According to People, Jamie has also asked to be granted the “power to obtain all documents and records” relating to his daughter’s estate. Those documents include “all contracts, information relating to credit cards, bank statements, estate planning documents, receivables, and any and all powers of attorney.”
This call to be reinstated comes nearly one year after Jamie stepped down as Spears’ permanent conservator in September 2019. According to reports, Jamie stepped down due to “personal health reasons.” Jodi Montgomery — a licensed conservator — then took his place on a temporary basis.
However, Britney said in her own court filing that she is reportedly strongly opposed to her father returning as her main conservator. Instead, the performer “strongly prefers to have a qualified corporate fiduciary appointed to serve in this role,” which would be Montgomery.

Additionally, her conservatorship has been extended until at least February 2021. However, based off of Britney’s recent filing it doesn’t seem like she will be fighting to end the conservatorship any time soon.
