On June 17, 2022, detectives in the Vancouver, Washington area conducted a welfare check on an 8-year-old boy, Breadson John, who was presumed to be missing. Upon entering the home, detectives confirmed his absence and issued a missing persons report. The search for Breadson ‘Brxsan’ John ensued.
Over the course of the next few months, detectives attempted to reach Breadson’s family members. However, members of his family weren’t providing any information, and their contact eventually went cold. Authorities confirmed that the boy’s grandparents were the last known guardians, and charges were later filed against them.

On February 17th, 2023, eight months after the young boy’s disappearance, the FBI – with help from sheriff’s deputies in Jasper County, Missouri – confirmed they had found Breadson John. At this time, the FBI is unsure what he was doing in Missouri, how he got to Missouri, and what he has been doing there for 8 months.
The search took a positive turn in January when a new missing person poster was released. The FBI received a tip that the boy had been taken to Jasper County, which is what led them to Missouri in the first place. A little over a month later, the boy was found safe and sound, though questions still remain.
Once the boy was recovered, he was immediately taken in by Missouri’s Department of Social Services and is still in the process of being transferred to the Washington Child Protective Services before he returns to his home state. In the meantime, authorities hope to learn more about what went wrong.

“Breadson’s recovery would not have been possible without the combined efforts of the Vancouver Police Department, FBI Kansas City, and the Jasper County Sheriff’s Office. We are relieved at this outcome and how quickly we were able to resolve it,” said Richard A. Collodi of the FBI. His recovery is astonishing.
