While Morgan Miller is beyond thankful for her six children, she continues to reflect on her experience while pregnant last year along with the aftermath of losing her daughter after a tragic drowning accident.
Morgan, pro-volleyball player, 32, and husband Bode Miller are proud parents to 3-month-old twins Asher Miller and Aksel Miller, Easton Vaughn Rek, 16 months, along with Edward Nash Skan, 4½.
In addition, they also had a daughter Emeline Grier, who died after a tragic drowning accident at just 19 months old back in June of 2018. Bode also has two children from previous relationships.
This past weekend, Morgan shared a photo on her Instagram of two identical dark-blue Cat & Jack dresses, opening up about the gut-wrenching reason she had purchased them both.
“When I found out I was having twins, I may have jumped the gun,” she wrote. “That’s the dress my daughter was wearing the day of her accident. It was her favorite dress. When we went to leave the hospital without her, I asked for her dress and they had lost it. I was heartbroken.”
“After some time, I got online and ordered two more … one for my future daughter,” Morgan shared “and one for my niece who was my daughter’s favorite person. When they arrived, I couldn’t decide which one to give to my niece which is absolutely ridiculous considering they were exactly the same.”
After Morgan found she was having boys, she was flooded with emotions after being “very wrong” about the sex of her twins but found solace in her late daughter, sharing how: “there is still no doubt Emmy sent us her identical baby brothers that Bode has always dreamed of.”
Both Morgan and Bode recently decided to share intimate details around the birth of their twin boys last year.
“Presenting…Birth Story with Bode,” Morgan, 32, posted in an Instagram Story this past weekend, requesting her followers to “continue with an open mind and an open heart…and a strong stomach.”
“I’m sharing because I want you to see we women are badass mothers and our bodies are beautiful. It’s a scary emotional ride but damn, we are capable of so much more than we even know,” she began.
Bode then began the tale, going back about a month before their sons Asher and Askel, were born.
“One of the interesting parts about it was my prediction that I was going to have identical twin boys born on my birthday. My birthday’s Oct. 12 and as we got towards Oct. 12 it was looking like it was very possible. It was within that window of early pregnancy for twins,” Bode stated.
And on November 8, they decided to induce birth while the kids were out of the house at school, which gave the babies a “window” of time to arrive.
“You were like, ‘I’m over this,’ ” Bode recalled to his wife, adding how as her contractions had begun to increase and they informed the midwives to come over, Morgan had a change of heart about having a home birth.
“You said, ‘I don’t want to do this today. I’m going to the hospital. I want to get an epidural,’ ” he shared. “I said, ’Well that’s not going to happen. That window has passed.’ ”
But 15 minutes later before the midwives were able to arrive, one of the babies decided it was time to meet their parents.
“You went over to the other side of the bed and said come push my hips…and within like three contractions I could really feel them going apart when I was pushing them together, which means that baby’s head is really getting low down in there and pushing apart your pelvis,” he shared.
“So this is like 3 o’clock now,” Morgan then jumps in from off-camera. “I’m on the other side of the bed and I looked at the tub on the other side of the room, decided it was too far for me to get there so fell to my knees on the side of the bed.”
As he helped hold Morgan’s hips together and push them, Bode recalled how he “felt the head start to come out” and just after he stopped pushing “the baby kind of came out.”
“He was fully in the sack of water until his feet were all the way out,” he revealed, explaining how they didn’t have much downtime until their second son “came in one” contraction.
And not too long after, the midwives and their doctor finally began to arrive.
“They were like, ‘Oh my god, holy s—, what are you doing?” he shared. “I was like, I guess having babies? I don’t know.”
And while not everything went to plan, Bode shared how it was an “incredible” experience, which he was able to share with his mother, Jo, who once was a midwife.
“To be able to share that was incredible,” he added.
“It was literally ideal,” he continued, sharing how it was “a lot for everybody to experience, you couldn’t have had it be cooler for everybody involved.”
