Soul music legend Bobby Caldwell has died following an illness.
Caldwell, who is best known for his smash hit “What You Won’t Do for Love,” died in his sleep Tuesday night, TMZ reports.
For the last five years, the singer-songwriter had been unable to walk as he coped with painful bouts of neuropathy and a torn tendon in his ankle. Last year it was revealed that Caldwell, 71, had a nasty reaction to a prescribed antibiotic in 2017. It caused his Achilles tendon to rupture, which led to neuropathy, the outlet reported.
“What You Won’t Do for Love,” was released in 1978 and became a Billboard top 10 hit making his self-titled album reach platinum status. Following the song’s success, the track quickly became his signature.

Older generations likely know every word to this song, but it has been featured recently in singing competitions like “The Voice” and “American Idol.” It has definitely made a big impact.
Additionally, the song has been covered by many artists, from Michael Bolton to Tupac Shakur.
Caldwell was a prolific songwriter who struck gold again with the 1986 hit “The Next Time I Fall,” which he wrote for Amy Grant and Peter Cetera.
