Beyoncé’s 7-Year-Old Daughter, Blue Ivy, Is Already an Award-Winning Songwriter, Which Is Honestly *Too* Impressive

Given her parents’ musical prowess, it’s no wonder that Blue Ivy Carter is already proving her ability as a singer/songwriter. And as of last week, she’s no ordinary songwriter; she’s an award-winning songwriter.

The seven-year-old daughter of Beyoncé and Jay Z recently won the Ashford & Simpson Songwriter’s Award. Blue Ivy was presented with the honor at the 2019 Soul Train Awards last weekend for her work on “Brown Skin Girl,” a song featured on her mom’s The Lion King: The Gift album.

We couldn’t find definitive proof, but we’re guessing that Blue Ivy is the youngest person to receive such an honor (or, at the very least, one of youngest).

Blue Ivy contributed to the song, which was featured on the soundtrack The Lion King: The Gift, released over the summer. The album was released by Beyoncé to coincide with the release of Disney’s live-action remake of The Lion King. It is an Afrobeats-inspired companion album to the film. Beyoncé and Jay Z, as well as Saint Jhn and other cowriters, shared the Songwriter’s Award with the young star.

In addition to receiving the award, the song was charted on the Billboard Hot 100 after its initial release.

The Grammy Awards are right around the corner, and though Blue Ivy didn’t snag a nomination this year, there’s now no doubt in our minds that day is coming, and likely soon. (The Gift was, however, nominated for Best Pop Vocal Album.)

Blue Ivy also holds the title of the youngest person to appear on the Billboard charts after she “sang” on her dad’s song “Glory” in 2012. (She was less than a year old at the time.)

In addition to winning accolades, Beyoncé is also going through the process to trademark her first-born’s name. We have no doubt that Blue Ivy will continue to be a cultural icon just like her parents.
